To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.
I bought this game the day it came out and still will not let me play. The game keeps saying I need the Steam client running on my machine, which is installed and running, but still does not run the game and quits at the intro screen. I've tried every possible fix, including the detailed fixes the customer help section recommends. It seems impossible to get in touch with the creators to trouble-shoot the problem or even demand my money back. Overall, a waste of time and money. Maybe this bad review will spark some attention.
From the trailer and the advertising material Leviathan: Warships is a really cool concept. Unfortunately the implementation falls far short of the expectations. There are only 6 poorly-thought out levels, and the ship customization options are poorly explained and limited. The game ends abruptly and the storyline is almost nonexistent.
Bottom-line: Fun navel combat game. Not as complex as the miniatures version but certainly doesn't take as long to play. I think if it had more of the depth of the board game version it might have a longer life to it, but we'll see what the devs do with it. It plays fine (at least on OSX 10.7+ currently) though there are a few rough UI patches here and there than need to be dealt with. The cross-platform support though is great. So rare to be able to play against/with friends on just about any platform.
Its probably easier for most people to just cut out the middle man and buy the game directly on Steam...
But I wouldn't rush to do that either. Currently there seems to be some issues with the Mac version (not sure about other operating systems). When you load the game up in steam and click play it pops up saying: [You need to have Steam running in order to play Leviathan]. I check a few forums, others seem to be having this same problem. Devs said "we're looking into it"...
First off, playing on Steam stinks. After that its just that you can't see much of battlefield and the screen only scrolls on key strokes. And the fights are so short ranged that there is no feel of naval combat.
Maybe it's a good game... I couldn't tell you. Amazon gives you a code to download and play the game through Steam. Problem is, once you get it installed, it won't run, just gives you an error message. Several other Mac users have reported the same problem...
Steam says it's the game maker's issue... Game maker says it's a Steam issue. No one seems interested in solving the problem.
$10 lesson... don't purchase games from Paradox....
