I have a cheap switch from walmart (belkin switch) that works great but it can't handle intensive things like a PS4. It also didn't come with a power cord and it topped out at 1080p. So when I looked for my next switch I wanted one that could handle above 1080, come with a power cord, and handle intensive things.
A bunch of switches have horrible reviews, so I bought this one on a whim thinking I could always return it if it didn't work.
Today I hooked it up. I have a chrome cast, PS4, and Steam Link plugged into it. I also have my surround sound system hooked to my TV.
Hookeup was very easy though 1 of the ports was tight.
I tested the chromecast first. I was worried it wouldn't work well with this or my surround sound. But it worked great. I had absolutly no problems here.
Now here's where I got confused. I was under the impression you needed to manually switch inputs. I also thought only the blue light would be on. Neither of those were true though. There were 2 lights on. Blue and orange. Blue was the active input and orange the inactive, but on, input. The others were not lit. I wanted to switch to my Steam Link next and hit the input # but got a black screen (the Steam Link fell asleep on me and was outputting a blank screen). I thought it hadn't switched and tried going through all the inputs. The tricky part? It only lets you switch to on inputs! If an input isn't on it won't switch to it, even if you tell it to. Call it a bonus feature. But if you don't know about it, it's hella confusing. I hit the "switch" button on the device and it still wouldn't cycle past the 2 on inputs. My other switch (from walmart) DOES switch through all inputs, regardless of status, so this was something I didn't expect.
Also, this is an auto switch. Meaning it WILL switch to the input that comes on automatically. You do NOT need to manually switch it. I love this feature but I noticed some people don't.
Once I figured out the lights and input I tested the Steam Link. This is streaming my PC intense games to my TV. Again I thought it may have issues but again it proved me wrong. It did awesome. No problems.
The last system was the PS4. The one that my other switch hates. This switch does just fine. It had no problems handling my PS4. Probably because it's powered, unlike my other switch. But either way, it handles my PS4 just fine.
I also tested the PIP (Picture in pitcher) mode. You hit the pip button on the remote and it'll show the other 3 inputs.
I can't test 4k or 3D since I my TV doesn't support either of those. I'm hoping it doesn't have issues with those but I don't think it will.
I've seen reviews of people having issues with the remote. I've not had any, though the box is within arm's reach sitting on my desk, so I'm not trying to shoot across a room. I've had no issues switching between devices, and no issues with the monitor when doing so. In all, quite pleased. If there are problems within the next, few months, I'll report back. If not, I'll see about bumping this up to five stars.
UPDATE: Now had this over two months, and still working flawlessly. Learned that I really like the fact that it auto-selects when I turn a new device on. Bumping this up to five stars.
This worked well for over a year but now it is no longer happy and continues to show No Signal when I try to use Ports 2 to 4.
Worked well when it was working, after little more than a year HDMI ports 2, 3 and 4 are no longer showing any video/audio output. No matter how many times I swapped the HDMI cables, the video and audio signal is no longer detected for the PS4.
I have also pulled the power to hopefully reset the HDMI Switch but that was to no avail. Now I have to look through Amazon to find a suitable replacement.
