I found the sizing errors to be even worse for the Shrink-to-Fit Levi's 501 jeans, where the old 36X36 fit me well but the new ones are too big in the waist and too long. My old gray and green pairs of size 36X36 still fit me fine, so I haven't changed. I then ordered size 35X34, which fit me well. Unfortunately, it's impossible to tell if the Shrink-to-Fit jeans will fit until washed, but they then can't be returned. So, I'm now stuck with the 36X36 I first ordered, as well as the 34X32 pre-shrunk pair. Levi's may be changing the sizing to better fit the aging population, but it ruins the online buying experience.
The color given for the 501 pre-shrunk jeans, "neutral gray," is misleading because it is anything but neutral. It is more a gray/green that is not very attractive and doesn't go well with many colors that would normally look good with gray. To be more accurate, it should be called gray/green.
I think the material is thinner than I remember for 501 jeans, but in am very happy with my choice and they were worth the wait. What wait? It tooks a few weeks for them to show up, but I ordered a color that I couldn't find anywhere in the "metal" so I wouldn't expect to see the same delays on more traditional colors. They are worth the wait though!! I wear them with motorcyle boots and they fit easy over them despite not being a boot cut jean.
They did not shrink, at least not noticeably, in the washer and dryer cycle either which is always a concern with jeans. I am also able to use a wide leather belt in them without any issues threading through the belt loops.
The fly buttons were much easier to use than I recall, so that was a bonus.
I love the fit and look and would definitely buy again.
The only thing to remember is that these are button fly. So, in times of urgency remember you will have to unbuckle and un-snap.
On the positive side, the return and refund process was very smooth. Pay $10 more and get them brand new at the store...
