Do not use with Tesla Chargers!

Tesla cars use high current for a long time. These cheap outlets work - yes they do. But when you're running 40 Amps through it for hours at a time, this is where it fails. The screws that hold the wires in is not good and the individual strands spread out resulting in a poor connection. Poor connections create heat and overall it will fail from repeated use. There are plenty of people posting pictures of these outlets that have melted. If it costs $10, it's cheap and you need to get the ones that Tesla recommends. The wire connections are superior and made to be plugged in/out many times. These are made to be plugged in once/twice and left alone (like a dryer or stove). Also make sure you use at least 6 gauge wire to be safe with a 50 amp breaker. The good outlets are $50-$75 but everything I've read says they're worth it. Mine got really dang warm last night which prompted me to research it and I will be replacing this outlet asap. For dryers and such that don't run constantly for ours at 40 amps it's probably fine but I'd recommend using wire ferrules on the ends of the wires to ensure the strands don't spread out if you do use this outlet. I'll be upgrading to the better outlet in addition to putting ferrules on the ends of the wires. The better outlets are made by Hubbell (HBL9450A). There are others as well but that is one of them.

Cons:
Wish the Nylon part was more securely fastened to the metal; it wiggles 0.5 mm in the metal bracket.
The slots for the wires go straight out the back: make sure your box is deep enough if using thick wire. I used a 2 1/8" deep box and added a 1/2" extension to provide more room. Some outlets have the slots for wires on the sides, which helps with boxes that aren't very deep.
The metal is weaker and more pliable than I expected; I was able to bend the metal plate when screwing the outlet in by hand.

I'll also remind folks that this isn't the best choice if you intend to use this for charging an electric car. These receptacles are designed for appliances that are plugged in once and left in place for years. They're not designed for daily insertion/removal cycles. They're not defective or inferior; they're just not designed for that kind of use. There are other brands of receptacles that are expressly designed for multiple insertion/removal cycles. If you intend to use the receptacle that way, choose a receptacle that is designed for that kind of use.

Was able to use it. Some of the screws that hold the wire were poorly threaded. One very poorly though after finally getting it to turn smoothed up enough to work. Otherwise fit in an existing box replacing a 10-50R using the same hole and box. Made in Mexico. They need to work on their threads south of the Rio Grande.

I did like the direction the wires feeds into the recepticle. It comes straight in from the rear. Some come in from the side and with the large 6 or 8 gauge wire don't bend inside the outer box so well.

I standardized on 4 wire for all my high current plugs. If you have straight 240v devices, just don't hook up the neutral on the male plug. If you have a camper you get everything you need. If you have a device that needs 240 and 120, this covers that too. These outlets let me do that affordably.

this plug is sturdy and made well, from a well known company, the only draw back is that the connector to the plug is from the top and not the side, and considering it is made for thick / heavy gage wire, ( i am using 6/3 copper) it was extremely difficult to attached wire from bottom , push plug into electrical box and close.. if connectors were from side would of made this much easier
