I wish they offered long cables with the small cable diameter. Then it would be fairly easy to hide cables tucked between the carpet and baseboard. But the length is limited to 4 feet for some reason. That's a bit short for a home installation. Maybe these cables are intended for corporate servers and routers where wire bundles can get out of hand fairly quickly.
I'd also like to digress by sharing with you the fact that thanks to my fortuitous ordering of this wonderful cable, I just discovered I'm a veritable giant among men. Measuring myself with this cord, I am 2.8 cord lengths tall. It turns out that I was grossly mismeasured by the nurse at my last physical, and I am not 6'3", but in fact around 11'2". I am not joking. This is awesome. Other parts of my anatomy are also, it turns out, quite a bit larger than I, or my wife, have properly given me credit for. So, in addition to a reliable conduit for ethernet frames at an aggregate rate of 1 Gb/s, this cable has been a boon to my self worth and esteem among coworkers and friends' spouses. Really, an unbelievable bargain, even at full retail.
UPDATE: It turns out I'm not actually a freakishly large engineer, but just a normal-sized engineer who was sent a cable significantly shorter than the advertised four feet of length. While my comments about the cable's quality stand, and this may just be an innocent packaging error, I feel it nevertheless appropriate to dock this product one star for causing me significant embarrassment during an Celtics open try-out day, as well as the expense of having to have yet another driver's license made.
Even though I just received the cable a few days ago, I've managed to find quite a few uses for it in a relatively short amount of time. I took it along for a short business trip, used it around the house, and ultimately used it with a new media center build. Which is presently where it is now. So far, I'm quite impressed with how useful this cable is. Having a thin/flexible cable is more useful than you may think.
I travel with a slim notebook bag and a 12.1" notebook. Space is definitely at a premium and it really did reduce some bulk in the bag with this new cable. My cable measured at right under 4'2" but did seem to be much shorter at first glance. Despite it's small size, it appears to be solid and isn't showing any signs that anything will be wearing out any time soon. It also has a rubber cover to prevent the plastic clip on the RJ-45 connector from breaking off. Which unfortunately happens far too often with other cables over time.
The reason why I left it with the new media center I built was because it enabled me to run the cable in a small hidden groove behind the entertainment center to a hidden switch. This would have been rather difficult with a normal cable in that tight space. Sure, I could go wireless, but I can't get the reliable speeds that I need to stream and transfer the large amount of stuff that I do. This cable had no issues transfer high-def 1080p media at 1GB speeds all day long. These files can range anywhere between 5-50GB which most certainly will benefit from a fast and reliable LAN.
Ultimately if you think you might have a need or use for a thin flexible network cable, look no further. This one delivers as advertised.
Also, although the cables are flexible, they also have a substantial "memory" effect to where they keep their bended shape from being coiled up in their packaging. Do not expect these cables to lay flat on your table when unrolled.
