Keep Your Luggage Secure – Even in the Airport
Did you know you can lock your luggage while you’re traveling through the airport? While the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) electronically scans bags, sometimes they also need to physically inspect a piece of luggage.
In these cases, the TSA logo on special locks alerts inspectors that they can unlock the luggage without cutting the lock or damaging the bag. Travel Sentry Approved Locks are designed specifically to keep your belongings secure while still allowing the TSA to open your luggage without destroying the locks during their screenings.

Enroute easy to read luggage combination lock
Numbers are white on black. Number size is smaller than Ideaworks and Lewis N Clark large dial locks, but larger than the other Lewis N Clark lock. Shackle is standard, 2cm high, solid metal “U.” Overall lock size is the smallest in this comparison. The outside casing appears to be metal, but this lock is still lightweight, compared to the others.
Lewis N Clark TSA aproved combination luggage lock with steel cable (TSA40X2ONG)
Numbers are white on black. Number size is the smallest in this comparison. Shackle is a flexible, 4cm high cable which is locked/unlocked by sliding it. The outside casing appears to be metal wrapped in rubber.
Lewis N Clark Travel Sentry large Dial Cable Lock (TSA46BLU)
Numbers are black on silver. Number size is almost as large as on the Ideaworks lock and significantly larger than on the other 2 locks. Shackle is a flexible, 4cm high cable, which is unlocked by pressing a knob on the bottom of the lock. The outside casing appears to be metal. This is the heaviest of the locks in this comparison.
(Jobar) Ideaworks Large Digit Luggage Lock (JB7611)
Numbers are black on silver. Number size is the largest in this roundup. Shackle is standard, 2cm high, solid metal “U.” The outside casing appears to be plastic, not metal. This lock is lighter weight than either of the Lewis N Clark locks, and a similar weight to the Enroute lock.
The Enroute lock is my favorite lock among the 4 reviewed here, primarily because I find it the easiest to read. The numbers are white on black, wihch I find easier to read than black on silver and more significant than minor variations in number size. I also prefer the standard solid metal shackle. The cable locks all seem to require extra maneuvers to lock/unlock. Of course, your opinion and priorities may vary.
My real favorite easy to read luggage lock was the Brookstone large print TSA combination lock. This was metal with relatively large, white on black numbers and a solid shackle. But I can’t find this lock available anywhere now.
HOW TO PROGRAM:
Programming a lock combination code is super simple, although no directions are included. So here's how to do it:
1. Use an ink pen (or similar) to push in the metal circle thing on the BOTTOM OF THE LOCK
2. Set the lock combination to what you want it to be by lining it up with the 3 White dots
3. Make sure you're still depressing the circle thing on the bottom this whole time
4. Now that the code is lined up, let go of the pen.
HOW TO USE:
1 line the 3 digit combo up with the three white dots. Make sure it is perfectly in line.
2. SLIDE THE RIGHT SIDE PIN TOWARD THE CENTER.
3. That's it!!!!
My advice is to buy these + a different type of lock and use the one that is best for that particular bag.
Otherwise, it is easy to change the combination. The dials are tight and you can tell whether the setting is accurate. Also, the black part is rubberized for a firm grip while setting or locking.
