One thing worth noting is that the Samsung flash drive does not seem to include a status indicator light, whereas the Lexar incorporates what is essentially a room-illuminating flashlight, in the form of its blue LED status indicator light. Seriously, if you are using this drive in a dark room, it will illuminate the entire room with blue flickering. For some, this may be undesirable.
Update on 2016-08-20: It may also be worth noting that the Lexar drive does not include a hole/slot/notch suitable for attaching a lanyard. The Samsung alternative does, albeit a very small one (a bit challenging to actually get a thin lanyard attached to it). Given how tiny these drives are, lanyards can be a useful addition to them.
The speeds are sufficient using it for modern PC gaming.
Love the ergonomics in comparison to other jumpdrives.
Worked fine time till the 6th month of January 2018.
Experienced Slow read & write, unrecognized drive, flickering UI. The latter is a new one to me. Windows 10 taskbar flickered crazy when this plugged in while the S45 went faulty.
Using the limited 3 year warranty... Requested RMA via Lexar.
Paid shipping, waited 3 weeks till the replacement arrives sometime around February 2018.
Two months in with the replacement S45, breaks down, same problem.
Now i'm really hesitant on paying shipping for another replacement S45. Can't get a full refund as I bought via Amazon direct.
The cost in return shipping will add up if it keeps breaking down in less than a years time for three years of the warranty.
I'm not experiencing this with two other known brand jumpdrives. they are lasting longer than this. Assuming faulty hardware.
Great ergo, decent speeds, when working of course. 3 year warranty is great. Reliability is poor.
UPDATE***
- Drive failed today. Will not read, but will bring up in Disk utility as damaged drive. unable to use first aid, and cannot erase or repartition. STAY AWAY.
I purchased this Lexar JumpDrive S45 USB 3.0 Flash Drive to replace the SanDisk Ultra Fit USB 3.0 Flash Drive, because the SanDisk product I had was overheating to such high temperatures (too hot to touch) that I was concerned about potential damage to the USB port; or worse, my entire laptop! But enough about the SanDisk flash drive... I stopped using it.
The Lexar flash drive is exactly what I wanted! The flash drive has an extremely low profile (probably the lowest I've seen, including USB dongles for wireless keyboards & mice) that I am able to leave it plugged in to my laptop without concern for it getting banged up or broken off and I can even leave it inserted when I place my laptop in its very snug carry case, which was one of my requirements when looking for and flash drive.
The reasoning behind wanting to be able to leave the flash drive inserted was so that I can boot from the USB flash drive and have a fully functioning Linux OS with persistence readily available. (On a side note; you may ask "Why not just dual boot Windows and Linux? Well, unlike a internal hard drive, I can just pull the Lexar flash drive from my laptop and use it on another computer should the need/desire arise.)
As far as performance, the Lexar USB 3.0 flash drive has great read/write speeds when booted to it as a Linux OS. I've had zero issues so far and haven't experienced any lag while running Linux. In fact, I was running a Linux update (large data writes) and it performed as if it were a standard hard drive and completed faster than I expected. And during the update I would touch the flash drive through out the process and it never got more than "slightly warm."
Some have commented on the bright blue LED on the Lexar flash drive that illuminates during reads/writes, but in my experience so far, it's no more distracting than that big bright light coming from the screen! However, I did take the liberty to reduced LED's output with nothing more than the skill of a Kindergartner and a Sharpie Marker.
Overall... Excellent product and a great price!

It is cool to touch during operation so it is a huge bonus when compared to the Sandisk Ultra Fit, which has heat issues.
Downside of this drive is that it is using TLC nand, but the nand are made by Samsung so the quality should be good. Now I wonder if the Samsung Fit is actually the same drive as the Lexar S45.
Anyways, I highly recommend this drive for WTG.
I mainly bought it for the small form factor, I wanted something that could stay on my laptop while being really compact, and this appeared to fit the bill. In fact it was so small, I had to check several times to make sure I had it in my bag!
My initial impression was mostly positive. The drive did not really feel hot at any point, which is good since a few other drives I had used in the past got really hot very quickly. The cap appears to be mainly held by friction and becomes loose with moderate usage, so do not rely on it holding your drive if you ever decide to use it on a key ring.
Performance seemed fine, though it got 'stuck' quite a bit. I am not sure if it is my PC or the drive to blame, and I am inclined to believe it is the latter. I used it once or twice a week to transfer a combination of some big (a few gigs each) and numerous small files between my office PC and home PC. It seemed to be working fine, so I tried to encrypt the drive using bitlocker. Unfortunately, halfway through it decided to quit working and that was the end of it. I tried to plug it in on several PCs just to make sure it was not my PC, but in vain. It is disappointing that this drive did not even last two weeks.
I maybe in the unfortunate group to receive a defective piece, but I would advise caution for those of you looking for a reliable drive to store data.
Tiny dependable quality flash drive with indicator light on the end. This is not a speed demon but it's fast enough for me. If I want warp speed, I watch an episode of Star Trek.
Did I say it was tiny... yes I did, so keep it away from your pet flea. He may accidentally swallow it. Just kidding, it is small but not that small.
