At least it started to fail right away... hints were there from the first seconds of use.

For anyone who has one of these (working) units, one suggestion would be to TAPE the plastic shell in place so that piece cannot accidentally rotate/twirl when in use and disconnect itself.

When accessing this drive from Windows Explorer at times, or even going out to a command prompt and typing the system-taxing DIR command, the whole system freezes up. After this happened for the tenth time in less than a hour, just opened a window to this drive and accessed random directories.. FREEZE. So not a coincidence.

Pity, as I had copied data to the drive last night the old way using xcopy from the command line so I could keep an eye on the process - but it seemed to take a very long time (aka:HINT!) so I went to sleep. But would explain why it was STILL copying in the morning - must have frozen a few times during the night.

Thankfully even with the shipping time tacked on, is only about a week old, so have done a return request with amazon, so now off to try and find something that A) won't burn my fingers and B) won't lock up the entire PC when you merely access it. Not even going so far as asking for the data to be safe on the drive... that is a luxury for later on.. Fingers Crossed!!

the drive is about 9 mos. old. the drive light stopped going on and off while the unit was plugged into my pc. i remove this drive about x2 a month. the connector was solid, i loved the groovy color, and the cap was a swivel so i would always have it available. the drive could not be discovered again after i removed it to check it on another machine. i wrote lexar tech support about it and they were not able to support the drive. they mentioned trying to contact some third parties but it's a total loss i fear. i will not buy another lexar. this WAS the backup.

If it goes in difficult, the design lets the actual drive push back in to the green area. Clever design but not durable and not really a very reliable design for much use. I would NOT buy this again, nothing wrong with the memory capability but the structure of the housing was not very well thought out for repeated use.

I'm a little embarrassed at how long it took me to realize that I should start using these USB 3.0 drives. They really are a lot faster than 2.0. I have quite a few of these Lexar drives, and have never had any trouble with them at all. I like this 32GB size. That is a very useful amount of data. The reason I don't like bigger drives than that is because I occasionally need to plug one into a TV to watch something, and it takes the TV too long to catalog bigger drives.

Worked for a while. Then the mechanism that slides the USB-A plug in and out wore out, and now, when the plug is extended and I try to push it into a USB socket, it moves back into the drive and fails to make a connection. Even after I manage to get it properly inserted, it behaves erratically at USB 2.0 speeds, rather than the USB 3.0 that I paid money for.

Conclusion: I'll never again buy a drive where the plug slides in and out. Only drives where a protective cap slides over the otherwise solidly-fixed plug.

This drive was exactly what I was looking for at first. It was the cheapest USB 3.0 flash drive I could find with a recognizable brand. However, after the first few insertions and being stored in my school backpack over the weekend, the mechanism that keeps the male USB head out of the body broke. This meant that every time I went to plug in the drive, the head would be pushed into the drive body instead of the USB port. Quite irritating. (Warning nerdy part) Also, the drive was formatted in some weird FAT32 configuration. My MacBook didn't have an issue mounting the drive but when I plugged it into my Windows 7 tower, Windows wanted to reconfigure the drive. Also quite irritating. Thankfully Amazon is letting me return the drive. Thank you! I'd still recommend the drive if one was planning on taking it out of its poorly designed casing.

I was not achieving 3.0 data transfer speeds and after a few days the device wasn’t recognized by any desktop or laptop device. Horrible build quality, which screams cheap parts. I purchased this item for saving pictures/videos of Christmas, & Trips. Therefore I did not try using it within the return time frame.
When I tried using it, the Unit failed completely and was not usable. I did manage to copy sensitive (to me) financial, Banking information as well as some pictures and videos, but when I tried to check results it started Ok but quit being read and computer suddenly would not recognize the thumb drive. I tried it on my other computer and same result, Not recognized.
I could not delete any of my information from the drive either, therefore I totally destroyed it because I would not send it with the information on it back to the Manufacturer even.
This is the first time a thumb drive has failed for me, and I have about 15 of them.

Sadly there is no direct link on Amazon even to contact them for advice after the return period passes.

Annoying retract mechanism spoils this product

This USB drive works, but has to be inserted carefully. It has a cute mechanism that extends the USB connector when the cover is rotated. Unfortunately, the mechanism is not robust and you have to be careful to very gently insert the USB or it will retract. You will not know it retracted and did not connect until you look for the drive in your file explorer or finder, as it will not be visible.

The first time I put the USB in it was a tight fit and then the metal usb part of it basiclly broke off form th ewplastic housing and it pushed inside the plastic making it impossible to plug in any port. I had to brewak the whole thing open and thro away the plastic housing, then cover the circuits with electric tape to use it.
