Veal's writing style issomewhat different in that he writes in a niche between Gothic horror andmodern day vampire literature that no other author has delved into yet. He isone of only a small handful of authors who adhere to the classical, lethalvampire instead of the more popular romanticized versionsportrayed in current literature. His characters are not the modernwhitewashed version of vampires but more of a cross between Bram Stoker'svampires and the ones found in present day paranormal literature. Whilethey are likable they are ~ NOT ~ human and the body count that piles up isastounding even though the vast majority of the victims are criminals of theworst sort.

Thecharacters are so realistic they set this book apart from any other vampirenovel ... they aren't scary, demonic creatures of the night ... just"different" than humans.
