I have a Lexmark x5650 All-In-One. Having owned several Lexmark printers and all-in-ones previously on their "buy our printer cheap, and then spends lots and lots on our printer cartridges for it's life" plan, I looked carefully at printing prices this time around.

I found if you continue to use the regular "non-XL" cartridges (a B&W and Color one of the regular cartridges generally come w/ the printer when you purchase it) - the printers are some of the worst in the industry for the price per printed page. But, using these can get you more than twice as many printed pages and lowers the on-going cost to make it one of the best available options. (There's actually a page on the Lexmark site that Amazon won't let me provide a link to that shows all of their cartridges and price per cost of sheet printed that demonstrates the point much better.)

Here's a couple of TIPS on ways I use that also extend use of these, though they may only work for you, if like me, there are only occassions that you need to print something out in crisp color:

- My default setting for printing is a quick, draft, black and white version. And, when printing a web page - I choose the "text only" option and specify the number of pages. I've set up a second "profile" that is for Best Quality Color - I use only on very limited occassions.

- I just completely ignore when Lexmark tells me to change to the cartridge. At least on mine, I've found that it has a long way to go before it actually runs out - when their software is telling me it needs to be changed immediately. In fact, even when either the black or the color cartridge says it's totally out - it will still give you the option of continuing to print w/ some variation of whichever cartridge still has ink.

Bottom Line: These are the cartridges you need if you want to run your Lexmark more affordably.

After reading several reviews on different options (refillable cartridge, non-high yield, etc) for replacing my black ink cartridge I chose the #36XL. This is the same one that came with my printer (which lasted forever) and so far I am not disappointed.

My grandson is in college now and uses the printer daily, that being said, he uses alot of ink and Lexmark XL cartridges last a considerably longer time than the regular cartridge. Amazon finds the best deals out there and I always check with them before purchasing anything.

This ink worked ok, but we never used the color ink and it mysteriously got lower with the black ink until they both reached 25% and then it no longer registered as having ANY ink. It was weird but it got us through the semester. The quality of the prints were lousy but if we turned it on a lighter shade of black then it was readable.
pay the extra few bucks for a better ink cartridge.

I love my Lexmark printer but do not love the fact that the ink is expensive compared to all my other printers. However, with my other printers I was always extremely satisfied with the refill cartridges from Sophia Global. Not only was the capacity excellent but the price was 50% of the OEM cartridges.

Flash forward to me getting this Lexmark printer. I got it at a phenomenal price from a Brick & Mortar big box store and the printer had two regular cartridges included in the box. Because of this, I was not even thinking about pricing these cartridges because the bundle (Printer + B&W + Magenta cartridge) was under $30! Yes, it was on sale, but still..

So, imagine my shock when I ran out of the free ink and came online to buy replacements. Never in a million years would I have guessed that a single cartridge would cost as much as the Printer and two Cartridges would! Well, that is OK I thought because I will just buy the refills from Sophia. Nope. When I got my printer, NONE of the ink sellers even made refills for my printer. In fact, you could not even buy the do it yourself refill kit for the 36/37. Since I love my printer so much I decided to buy a 4-pack from Staples because I had earned the rewards and also had a non-restricted 20% discount coupon. I figured that I would simply give the printer away or trash it if the cartridge price did not fall when the four pack ran out.

Not long after I had a health issue that sidelined me from my internet business for 6 months. Therefore, between the time that four cartridges lasted and the duration of my illness, I was very pleased to see that the 36/37 was offered as refills. I was pleased until my eyes traveled to the left and realized that the refills were relatively expensive as well.

I have been using this manufacturer's ink for several years. The ink is relatively inexpensive (for an original equipment ink) and it has excellent (photo and document) durability and great color quality.

I know that OEM inkjet cartridges seem like a great racket because they are the printer companies' moneymakers ...we know that those consumables are what it's all about... and since that's the way it is, I am glad that these XL cartridges perform as they are supposed to and give you good value (relatively speaking, and particularly compared to the allegedly "cheaper" alternatives.) I've never had a problem with a genuine Lexmark cartridge and this order was no exception.

Don't waste your time or money on the third party cartridges! (every once in a while I think I'll save some money and do just that - and end up disappointed... that's what happened before I ordered this)... the OEM cartridges last longer and are more reliable than those, and the last batch of 3rd party cartridges I bought ended up costing me more because 3 of the 4 ended up "running out" (clogging up) only a few pages in.
