Liars: How Progressives Exploit Our Fears for Power and Control Hardcover – August 2, 2016
Purchase options and add-ons
WHY DO WE ACCEPT THE LIES?
Politics is no longer about pointing to a shining city on the hill; it’s about promising you a shiny new car for your driveway. The candidate who tells the people what they want to hear is usually the one who wins—facts be damned.
Politicians may be sleazy and spineless, but they’re not stupid. They see that the way to win is by first telling people everything that is wrong with the world, and then painting a vision of the life they want—a Utopian vision that they’ll create right here on earth, one where no one is ever sick or hungry, jobless, or homeless. All we have to do is surrender our freedom and someone else’s wallet and they’ll make it happen.
And so they continue to lie, and we continue to believe them, and they keep winning elections.
The only way to break the cycle is to understand why Americans fall for the deception over and over again. In Liars, #1 bestselling author and nationally syndicated radio host Glenn Beck reveals the startlingly simple answer: fear.
At our most basic level, we’re all afraid of something. Progressives from both parties exploit this by first pointing out the things we should be afraid of, and then offering us “solutions” to these fears. Solutions that always require us to give up our freedoms. Solutions that are based on two things: lies, and an unrelenting hunger for power and control.
In his signature no-holds-barred way, Beck destroys the false promises of Progressivism and takes us through its history, showing how each “wave” built up on the one before it, ultimately washing up to the beach in the form of Barack Obama—and whoever is next.

Before I bought the book, I read the negative reviews which seem to attack the man, but can't dispute the facts in this book.
If you are on a school committie or education board, make it your mission to get this book into the classroom!
I've always liked Glenn because he is so well researched before he writes or speaks. I don't always agree with his conclusions, but so far, I can't dispute his research. After reading most of Glenn's books, I'm sure I'll enjoy this one as well. I will update on this book in a few days when I finish it. My 5 stars will only change if it's poorly written, or I find the research flawed....I won't change the rating on the book just because I disagree with an opinion or dislike the author's conclusions.
Update: My 5 stars stay. This book is a wonderful account of how progressives have been able to put their policies in place over the years, as well as refining their techniques for doing so into an art. Beck shows, through historical accounts, how this has been going on for years. That the process of changing our country into something that has already been tried elsewhere and has failed, is an ongoing thing by people who think they are smarter than the people who failed at it before.
It's well written but I missed the humor Beck usually injects in his books. I have the kindle version which lists his sources and references at the end of the book rather than on the page where it is mentioned. I don't know how this book in hard copy lists his notes.
I can't tell you what conclusion you will come to after reading this book, but you will come away with a better understanding of how the progressive movement works.
