I guess I'll have to be the lone dissenting voice amongst those who reviewed this book because this was my number one pick for 2009. But what can I say--I love hawt sex (of the well-written kind, not How to Write Porn 101), great dialogue, good character development, and angsty storylines that don't cross over into melodrama.

Some of the reviewers complained about a lack of sexual tension--seriously? Just because the characters were knocking boots within the first few chapters? What's not to like about that? I pay good money to read stuff like that. It was probably one of the hottest scenes I've read in awhile, and I felt Calhoun did a great job in setting up the meet between the h/h and getting them to the parking lot on time. She captured the essence of the quintessential one-night stand (that isn't really a one-night stand after all) with all its frenzy, possible awkward moments, and bada-bing climax (no pun intended). With all this happening in the first few pages, I was so looking forward to the rest of the chapters.

And Calhoun delivers. I liked this story because it could've been your typical Cougar-from-Puma-Town-Meets-Hottie-Boy-Toy, but the character development was outstanding. Yeah, yeah, the heroine is coming out of a bad divorce and was looking for a little sumpin-sumpin', but she found a mature--albeit younger--man who is patient, levelheaded, and (thank you Jeebus) really good in the sack. The storyline could've been filled with much wailing, gnashing of teeth, pulling of hair, and Geritol back rubs, but instead, Calhoun presents a story of an older woman and a younger man and how they work through their issues. Yes, a well-written story. With hawt sex. Did I mention the hawt sex?

And not just hawt. WELL-WRITTEN hawt sex.

Lacey Meyers is a free woman after fifteen years of marriage to her husband she has known since she was in kindergarten. At thirty-six, Lacey wants to get back into the dating scene, but is wary of doing so since the only man she has ever been with intimately was with her ex-husband. Plus, at her advanced age (snort), Lacey feels she may have a dry spell since she has to compete with the younger, single women who know how to navigate the world of dating and sex. Based on the advice of her best friend Clare, Lacey will live it up and perhaps have a no strings sexual affair. She heads to Buff, the nightclub a local paper awards the "Best Place to Meet Someone New." This is way out of Lacey's league and comfort zone because she has never really trolled the bars and clubs since she comes from a more high class environment. But Lacey isn't a snob and very down to earth. Plus, she's dying to get laid.

While Lacey is at the bar enjoying her glass of Chardonnay, she meets a man who sends an electric shock through her body. The object of Lacey's lust introduces himself as twenty-eight year old Hunter, who also happens to be a cop. Lacey scores big with this younger hunk, and without pussy footing around it, they end up outside and having hot sex up against a SUV. From the amount of orgasms Hunter gives Lacey in the few minutes he has her against a stranger's car, she invites him to her home for a night of mind-numbing sex, which Hunter delivers and more.

The next morning Hunter is ready to fly the coop because he feels this is just a one night hook up type of thing. But he finds Lacey to be very different from all the other women he's been with. Lacey is very relaxed about the whole thing and doesn't expect anything else from him.

4.5 Stars! Liberating Lacey by Anne Calhoun is a well written erotic book. I like my erotic books to have a decent plot but more importantly character development and this book delivered on that along with some really hot sex scenes. The H/h meet each other and have a one night stand that isn't quite a one night stand. The book starts off with a bang and keeps your interest from there.

This book is more than a "Cougar from up-town" meets a Young Boy-Toy. Both the characters were very well developed. Yes the h was a recent divorcee looking for a little bit of fun and wanting to do some things she'd never done before, and the H was a younger guy who isn't interested in a relationship. However, both characters have so much more too them. Their relationship grows and explores an older woman and a younger guy working through the issues presented from their own ideas and the preconceived notions of other people looking at their relationship from the outside.

The sex in this book was hot and well written. It wasn't over the top and thank you no anatomy lessons. It was also believable and the author didn't try to do everything crazy and over the top kinky. It was just well written and hot.

If you are looking for a hot erotic read with a good story and excellent characters then give this one a try.

This is my first time reading Anne Calhoun, and I loved it. It's now one of my keepers. I think she's a very good writer, with a very modern way with words and phrasing. The writing is very real and very current, managing to be both sweetly romantic and completely erotic and sexy at the same time. It hit all the right notes for erotic romance.

Lacey is a realistic but endearing depiction of the non-desperate 'cougar.' You can't really call Lacey that word. She's not the stereotypical cougar/older woman bar-hopping her way through men; she's newly single and trying to find out what dating is all about now, having been out of the scene for over 15 years. Lacey is honest and is living her life as she wants, seizing all the 'first' experiences she can, now that she's single and free at 36.

And as for our hero, Hunter is so fine. I loved him. Tall, dark and handsome with that commanding attitude of his. That one scene where she first sees him in his dark blue police uniform w/ all his gear on? Wow. The lead up to the sex was so erotic - Lacey's sitting on his lap, asking questions about his kit, he's shows her his gun and handcuffs. Jeez. I wanted to be in that scene.

Lacey is 36 and Hunter 28. The conflict is more about her money/career and class than it really is about the 8 year age difference, and it's something that bothers him more so than it does Lacey. It made for some nice conflict in the relationship. Excellent story told really well, with great characters, and hotter than hot sex scenes. A great, sexy read.
