First off, no it’s not cast. Really? For this price? C’mon. It’s pretty heavy though, and it’s well machined. It doesn’t come with mounting hardware. Omg, you can’t spring for 4 lag screws? How do you people manage to own a home? Now for the most common complaint: leaks. I have had no issues with leaks so far but I believe most of the problems could more than likely be resolved with a .15 cent “o” ring or some Teflon tape. You can also disconnect the hose from the swivel and tighten the inside connector piece. Try reading.
Look, it’s not a $200 reel, but it’s also not a $29 Home Cheapo or Wal of China Mart reel. Manage your expectations.
I’m very pleased. My only issue is that I have 100 feet of real rubber 5/8” hose and it’s stretching the limits of use. But it does fit. Spray it with a little WD 40 now and then, and if necessary hit it with a coat of Rustoleum. It’s obviously not a “legacy” investment. But every single person who sees it compliments me on it.

Fails quickly

The swivel connector failed within 6 months; shoots water everywhere. In addition, the inside of the reel is starting to rust already. I would be surprised if reviewers giving this a good review have owned it for very long. This thing is garbage.

Don't buy - obvious design flaw

Like many others have stated, looks good but leaks from the 90 degree elbow after a couple of months. Now the majority of the water pressure is lost due to water spraying all over the wall I mounted it on and leaking on my patio.

This unit has VERY large holes where the screws go which made using washers necessary, this said, no washers, screws nor anchors came with this. Which is annoying because this is an expensive unit and I would like it too match.Reviewed in Canada on July 10, 2020
The unit is actually some kind of light bent and shaped metal so I am worried it is going to just rust away, I thought it looked more solid in the photos. The handle and crank shaft is solid and more what I expected with the rest.
The most annoying thing is that they give you a little hose to attach this too the wall faucet but it is green, which is super ugly along side this nice unit. Why not a brown or black one?
The difficulty in installation is because I did not have the parts and therefore had to take a trip (DURING COVID) to the hardware store for these little parts that should have been included. I suggest that the company charge $5 more and make it a lot more convenient.
Mine also arrived damaged. The top shelf was bent down in the middle, which shows you how light this actually is.
It does look nice installed. Except the green hose, blue screws, silver washers. Again... the end user can't really do much about this since you take what you get at the hardware store, right?
The three points are for being attractive, useful and not leaking. The two I took away are for parts that I think should have been included and the hideous hose.
UPDATE:
Last fall we had a snap freeze overnight early in the fall. Because this is metal it froze easily overnight and when I woke in the morning the entire thing was leaking - hose, leader (that I had added after market) and also the cylinder inside this unit. cylinder was super expensive to replace, but not hard to do after watching a little video on youtube. Advise others to be mindful to watch the weather and disconnect the water early as well as to blow out the lines.
Unexpected bonus is that the little shelf above hides my hand tools well enough that porch pirates cannot see them. I left out my (dibbler) tulip planter right beside this and it got carried away, but they did not see or steal hand tools so this is a really great feature for people like me who have a little overhang at the front of their home.

Most of the reviews were very positive for this. I should have read the negative reviews first. I have exactly the same problem. Leaks from within the unit. When I removed the brass shaft there was some type of damaged washer inside. Don't know if it can be replaced. I have contacted seller. No problems with the O-rings. We'll see if they can suggest repair. Considering this was $115 CAD I am not impressed.Reviewed in Canada on July 2, 2021
UPDATE JULY 9 - I returned the leaky one and got a replacement very quickly. The one I received today works fine and does not leaks at all.
