This is a two-disc set containing the three Librarians made for TV movies, starring Noah Wyle in his first major post-ER role. Wyle stars a Flynn Carson, a perpetual student with a multitude of pretty useless degrees and no life. Flynn receives an invitation to apply for a job as the librarian at the New York Metropolitan Library. He discovers that the Librarian collects and protects magical and supernatural artifacts like Excaliber, Pandora's Box, and The Ark of the Covenant. In the first movie, The Quest for the Spear, the Spear of Destiny is stolen from the Library, and Flynn and his Guardian, Nicole Noone, (played by Sonya Wagner) have to recover it. In the second movie, Return to King Solomon's Mines, Flynn and an archeologist named Emily Davenport (played by Gabrielle Anwar) must find, and guard the secret of King Solomon's Mine. The third movie, Curse of the Judas Chalice, is set in New Orleans and has a storyline that involves vampires and their version of the Holy Grail.
The movies are basically Indiana Jones knockoffs with even more supernatural elements than the Indiana Jones movies, mixed with a love story. In each movie, Flynn ends up falling in love with the female lead (Wagner in the first movie, Anwar in the second, and Stana Katic in the third) during an adventure to find and recover some ancient relic. None of the movies had a huge budget, so the special effects could be a bit cheesy, but I think cheesy was the vibe they were going for.
Each of the movies has some extras including deleted scenes and some behind-the-scenes featurettes. The extras run about 15 minutes or less per movie, so none of the movies have an extensive amount of bonus content, but it is there for you.
I'd say that the movies are good, but not great. They do have strong supporting casts including Jane Curtin, Bob Newhart (both of whom reprise their roles in the spin-off TV series The Librarians), Kelly Hu, Kyle McLaughlan, Olympia Dukakis, Bruce Davidson, Erick Avari, and more. They do take a lot of suspension of disbelief, but they are generally well-written and acted and some of the storylines carried over into the TV series. I cannot say they will appeal to everyone, but if you generally like action-adventure movies with some fantasy elements mixed in, this is worth watching.

I've always liked these movies but they're not on the air much anymore. This was a good price for all three. Good quality packaging and viewing.

Many other people enter those doors with the crouching lions in front, but only a special few get to access the REAL library behind hidden doors. The real library has artifacts of myth and legend. As Judson, head of the library tells Flynn, "Some of the items in the library violate the known laws of science. But that is only because our brains are so small we haven't come up with laws to explain them."
One of those items is one of three parts of the Spear of Destiny. Whoever joins the three parts has a spear of awesome power and can take over the world. On Flynn's very first night, ninja's break into the library and steal it's spear part. Flynn's mission, as explained by Judson and Charlene, the library administrator, is to use an ancient book and recover all three parts of the spear for the library. Good thing the bumbling Flynn isn't sent into the wild alone.
That is "Quest for the Spear", the first of "The Librarian" made-for-TV movies, first airing on TNT. The other two movies follow the same general formula. This is family fare in the vein of the the movies shown on "The Wonderful World of Disney" (1969–1979). Though I don't think any of The Librarian movies are as good as the best of Disney.
The first movie originally aired in 2004. "Return to King Solomon's Mines" followed in 2006, with "Curse of the Judas Chalice" in 2008. The movies are comedy-adventures with adequate bad guys and far-fetched fantastical plots. Bob Newhart and Jane Curtin are good as Judson and Charlene. The first movie has Kyle Maclachlan as the man out to rule the world. Sidekicks are pretty good. See Stana Katic in the third movie, just before she became Detective Kate Beckett on "Castle" (2009-2016).
English subtitles are available on all three movies. "The Curse of the Judas Chalice" has four Bonus Features:
...A... "Deleted Scenes" (7 minutes) Three extended scenes.
...B... "Visual Effects Deconstruction Sequences" (7 minutes) For 11 scenes in the movie, they show the green screen as filmed and the actual altered scenes.
...C... "A Look Behind the Monastery Scene" (3 minutes) A short video of a rehearsal.
...D... "Previews" Trailers for 5 other movies.
I didn't dislike the three Librarian movies, they are OK, with the 1st, "Quest for the Spear" better than the rest.

Flynn Carsen, 32 years-old and a professional student has been kicked out of college after getting only 22 degrees. It's from the Metropolitan Public Library, "You have been selected to interview for a prestigious position." It turns out its him and a hundred other people. But Flynn's the one who lands the job as Librarian with a 6-month trial period.

This set provides a good quality, cheap way to obtain the three movies in the "Librarian" trilogy, but there is a small "catch" in that the first two movies, "Quest for the Spear" and "Return to King Solomon's Mines" are presented on a single disc, apparently made specifically for this collection. The disc itself has no fancy label, there are no special features, and, irritatingly, there is no provision for jumping to a specific scene in either film. The third movie , "The Curse of the Judas Chalice," appears by itself on a beautifully labeled single disc. It is doubtless the same disc you would get if you bought this movie by itself, and there are all the usual bonus features and "jump to a scene" capability. From among the many buying options, this is clearly the cheapest way to obtain all three of the films, but if you depend heavily on "jump to a scene" and you care a lot about the bonus materials which could be available with other options, you might want to consider carefully before getting this one.

Reviewed in Canada on March 23, 2018
The librarian trilogy is a good start to a fun tv series called The Libarians. Unfortunately it is best viewed from that angle.
These movies are Tv movies made by TNT. The premise is that a magical Library exists within the metropolitan library of New York. Here a magical protal connects to a vault of magical artifacts. The librarians collect and store dangerous artefacts so they cannot harm anyone.
When the old librarian dies Flynn Carson is recruited to fulfill that role due to his high intellects and ability to speak several languages. Together with his Guardian (another word for bodyguard) Nicole Noone they go out to explore for the parts of the Spear of Destiny before the villain can get his hands on it. The story is a decent beginning to the series. However there are obvious production shortcuts, such as the blue screen trick that can easily be noticed.
The second movie is about Flynn finding out that his father was tasked to protect the Book of Solomon, which is in line with his duties as librarian. Since his guardian mysteriously disappeared (we aren't told how) he joins an archaeologist to race against the villains to find the book. It is slightly better than the original because it explores Flynn's character in more depth.
The final movie has Stana Katic from Castle as a vampire who appoints herself guardian of the Judas Chalice, a magical item that returns vampires to their full power. The bad guys want to use the chalice to resurrect a long dead vampire named Vlad Dracule so that he can help them rule the world. But Vlad has other plans. This is the best of three movies primarily because of Stana Katic's strong performance.
One can of think of these movies in part as an Indiana Jones made for TV movie. And they would be right. As a result it is hard to recommend them. However if you are a fan of the far superior The Librarians series then you might want to get this to complete your collection.

I really like these movie was not sure what I was buying but glad I did. This is not a movie of bad killing nor bad taste. These movie are about a Librarian who is educated in every way. The Liberian at first is a student who keeps going back every year and getting his degree over and over and over etc, and the professor tells him that he will not be able to go back to school so he looks for a job and becomes the Librarian but doesn't now that he will be going on adventures and life threading adventures to collect artifacts etc, on the way threw the different movies he falls in love and then looses his love do to aways away, the Librarian job takes him all over the world so no time for relationships. I would say that the three movie are fun exciting adventurous and just fun to watch. I have not seen the TV series only the movies. I hesitated on buying these movies on DVD do to some people saying that the movies don't play on there DVD player but the movie are NTSC witch means that they play in the USA and Canada, well I put the DVD into my player and watch all three movies this weekend. Great movies and no problem with playing the movies. There are Blu Ray players out the that don't play DVD's but all the DVD Blu Ray and 3 D player I have work just fine. Enjoy.
