I randomly bought this cd the other day and what a great surprise! Layers of sound around simple pop songs and echoed vocal harmonies is a good recipe for me. Apparently I just missed them in my town, but I will be picking up their other cd, which is supposed to be more stripped down. Fans of Papercuts and Camera Obscura will definitely like this one.

One of my favorite scenes from a movie was when Harry Dean Stanton sung Roy Orbison's IN DREAMS into a garage mechanics lantern in the great BLUE VELVET. LIBRARIES, the second album by NC group The Love Languages is pretty much in that vein.

Mixing strong pre-Beatle melodies and swooning vocals with colossal Wall of Sound production, LIBRARIES has a timeless pop feel to it. Listen close however, and you hear strangley distubing lyrics. The perfect example is HORROPHONES where the Spectorish music builds like a summer storm cloud while the singer goes on about how all young children wish to die. At he end comes a squalling guitar right out of My Bloody Valentine, and there you have a modern classic.

This album has been on constant rotation for the last couple years. Everytime I listen, I hear some new little detail or refernce. Good stuff.

Every song on this album is completely fantastic. With some of the most poetic and moving lyrics that I have ever had the pleasure of listening to, the music is perfect for almost any mood. I have searched long and hard for other bands that come close to this sound and depth, but I haven't found any.
