Library Lil is a great and funny picture book for kids about a determined young librarian who wants everyone to use and enjoy the library. It is a tall tale, which is the only truly American folk/traditional tale, in the spirit of Pecos Bill or Paul Bunyan with a female heroine; and it's the ONLY tall tale I know with a girl in the lead. Lil is a great role model who is able to singlehandedly haul a beat up bookmobile around and tame a wild motorcycle gang, all in the name of producing prolific readers in her small town. This is a great character who gives tribute to the usually under appreciated school librarian. Steven Kellogg's colorful and active illustrations add to the wildness of the story and the savvy of Lil's character. They allow children to see everything unfold as Lil's story is told. Lil is an unforgettable gal who delivers a good message about reading and with a surprise twist at the end she leaves them laughing when she goes! Believe me, when this one is used as a read aloud, the listeners will howl!

Not all superheroes wear a cape and tights! Some wear everyday clothes and introduce you to a world that is as big as the universe. Library Lil wakes up the town to the joys of reading--and then she captures the hearts of a motorcycle gang that has previously been hooked on television and wrestling.

This is the book that I am going to read aloud to my kids on the first day of school. I'm all about reading and this one is a hilarious take on the usual stereotypical librarian. I highly recommend this this book.

Given that it's a Steven Kellogg book, of course we expect great things. He illustrated, didn't author this one, but it's a great book. We got this from the library so many times that we finally bought our own. Good plot and pictures. Promotes books over TV, but allows compromise in the end. My 1 yo, 4 yo, 9 yo, 11 yo and 13 you all like this book. Cute and clever.

Great book to teach idioms! It has a fun plot for both boys and girls, even with the female main character.
