Imagine waking up in a hotel room in Las Vegas, after a night of drinking and partying, with a hot tattooed guy in your bed, a huge ring on your finger, a killer hangover, but no recollection whatsoever of the night before. Now add to that the fact that you might not remember anything, but the rock star you woke up next to does, every single detail, and he might have been completely sober when you tied the knot? To annul or not to annul, that is the question... Did I mention he is covered in tattoos and he is in a band?
Evelyn's life has always gone according to plan, with her future clearly mapped in front of her and that path never questioned. With a practically non-existent love life and minimal experience in all matters of the heart, Ev has always put her studies first and everything else second. Waking up married to someone she does not even know goes entirely against her carefully tailored plan for the future. Mortified by her drunken antics and confused by what her mind is allowing her to remember from the night before, she agrees to an annulment. But the memories keep flashing back, memories of a man whose kisses set her on fire, whose body ignited hers, and the sight of whom still makes her tremble.
David Ferris is the lead guitarist for Stage Dive. His very public image offers him no privacy and having lived that lifestyle for so long, he has learned not to trust the people that seem to gravitate around him and the other members of the band. When his new "wife" does not appear to remember any of the things that happened between them leading up to their impromptu wedding, he reluctantly pushes those memories back, agreeing it was all a mistake, even though his anger might indicate that maybe his actions were totally deliberate. And very much wanted.
"... I married you, Evelyn, because you made sense to me. We make sense. We're a whole lot better together than apart."
What starts as a night of missing inhibitions, followed by a morning of regrets and mixed emotions, slowly develops into two people agreeing to give their marriage a chance, getting to know each other, learning to trust one another, and building on that spark that brought them together in the first place. For Evelyn, David is the freedom that her own life never offered her. For David, Evelyn is the first person who's treated him as a person, not a rock star, her outspoken personality and kind heart awakening in him the man he always wanted to be. She does nor care who he is or what he does for a living - she wants to get to know the man, not the celebrity, and that is something David has never found in another woman before.
"I like you the way you are, blurting out whatever sh*t crosses your mind. Not trying to play me, or use me. You're just... being with me."
This might have started as a nicely paced albeit extremely sexy romance between a good girl and a bad boy, with no great emotional oscillations one way or another, but at one point everything changes, and this book goes from being great to becoming awesome. The perfect blend of steamy chemistry between the characters and believable emotional growth, this is a story that will keep you in a constant state of `I-need-more-more-more'. More of the delicious love scenes, more of the intensity between the characters, more of the angst. Apart from the mouth-watering cover, I had no idea what I was diving into when I started this book but I knew even after a few pages that this was going to be a story I would not be able to put down. Both light-hearted and deeply passionate, this book was pure rocker perfection.
Did I mention the guy had tattoos and played in a band?
"Only this was real, me and him together. Everything else could come and go. I'd found what was worth fighting for."
I really enjoyed these characters - the whole band really. I'm excited that there are more books for each. Mal (the DRUMMER - I so love drummers) is the one I'm most excited to read and it's next! All these characters are the reason I fell in love with this book.
Of course, the story was interesting with lots of places for me to cheer and shout. I loved that (at different points in the story) each of them struggled to let the other back into their heart. It felt like the relationship had to be earned again and again despite how quickly it happened. That made up for the instalove for me.
The writing is first person (my favorite) and completely from Evelyn's point of view. I think the only thing that could have made this book better would be if we got to be inside David's head. All the little plot points where wrapped up - something that I always look for. And the way is paved for Mal. He makes a comment near the end of this book that he's not going down the marriage path. HA! You're next sucker!
Rock star drama, cuddle time with side of yummy kissing - this story will capture you!
Evelyn Thomas is a good girl ready to let her hair down for her twenty-first birthday. What better place to let loose than Las Vegas? She wasn’t expecting, however, to wake up with the mother of all hangovers on the bathroom floor of her cheap hotel with a diamond the size of a baby’s fist on her hand. Clearly something big happened that night because if the ring wasn’t a big enough clue, the half-naked rock star starring at her would have given it a way! Did she get married in Vegas? Too bad she doesn’t remember a thing!
I was hesitant when I decided to read this book. The whole “getting married in Vegas” seems so cliched, how could it possibly make for a decent story line? Well color me surprised when I find that Kylie Scott has turned a played out idea into a unique and sexy story.
This is the first book I have read by Scott and I was pleased to discover that her writing is well-paced and beautifully descriptive. Her dialogue is fast and fun and kept me truing pages into the wee hours of the morning.
Scott presents us with two characters that couldn’t be further apart. There is David, the sexy bad boy rock star from LA, and then there is Evelyn, the aspiring architecture student and newly 21 year old from Portland. When they collide it’s as if the world finally makes sense, and what better way to preserve that feeling for every day than by marrying each other?
This is where the twist comes in! Evelyn doesn’t remember getting married or what the guy in her hotel room’s name is. Can you say awkward? Things really get going when Evelyn discovers that she actually likes this rocker even though she’s a country music lover at heart.
This is a quick love story that shows that time doesn’t necessarily factor in when the heart has made its choice. It will have you laughing, cringing, cheering, and even crying a little bit. This is a story not to be missed!
My favorite time to recommend a book is when all of the books in a series have been published. I love being able to read a whole series without stopping so there’s no chance of forgetting anything about the characters. Now that the fourth and final book of the Stage Dive series has released, I am ready to shout on the rooftops about the amazing-ness that is this series! I fell in love more and more with each of the Stage Dive novels. Such fun well written rocker romances! So get to reading!
