Lidia has created a cookbook that showcases Italian-American food from across America. She visits cities from the Bronx to San Diego, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Kansas City. She expands the idea of Italian food to include Baltimore's famous Faidley's crab cakes which will be one of the greatest recipes you could ever get and muffuletta sandwiches from New Orleans.

She tells a bit about each recipe and even more about the communities she visited and the people she met. There are few pictures of the recipes themselves. There are many of Lidia and the places she went to. Included are recipes for: antipasti, zuppe, sandwiches and pizza, salads, pasta, vegetables and sides, seafood, meat and desserts. She incorporates a list of episodes from her television series `Lidia's Italy in America', seasons 1 and 2 and recipes from the series. An index lists by recipe name and ingredient.

The recipes are not difficult, they are written out clearly with the number of servings. We have already enjoyed; Italian American meatloaf, almond pine nut cookies and lemon granita and of course the crab cake recipe is marvelous.
This is a book that many would want to add to their cookbook collection if they are fans of Lidia and/or Italian cooking.

I have all of Lidia's books and this one just may be the best for the American of Italian descent or any fan of Italian food. The Americanized recipes are fantastic yet still hold true to their Italian roots. So many are right from my Grandmothers kitchen watching her cook as a kid that the memories are flooding in. You will not be disappointed with this book by no means.

I have all of Lidia's cookbooks, use them frequently, and watch her show faithfully. I found this publication to be a little disappointing. The concept was a good idea but I would rather have seen a selection of recpies from Italian families who are not necessarily in the restaurant business. It's already on the bookshelf.

I had purchased Lidia's Italy and loved the book and the TV series. The recipes I made (and it was a lot of them) were great. So, when Lidia's Italy in America came out, I had to have it. Lidia did it again with another great cookbook that Italian Americans and non-Italians can relate to. Many of these dishes we have had a home and in restaurants. As we get older, a lot of the old recipes are not carried forward to the next generation. Thanks to Lidia they are now carried on. The stories about the Italian American areas are fantastic and very interesting. The book covers a huge variety of Italian American foods; there's antipasti, soup, salad, sandwiches, pizza, salads, pasta, vegetables, seafood, meats, and desserts. It's all in there. I can't wait to start cooking my way through this one. Lidia is a great chef who truly enjoys what she is doing. We are all so lucky to have her.

I don't buy lots of cook books, but happened to see Lidia on tv and just had to get this book. Though I now live in the midwest, I grew up in New Jersey with many Italian friends. Lidia has recipes for foods I remember eating at these friend's houses. These recipes are authentic Italian American cooking. Some are challenging, but all are fabulous. My family gets excited when they know I'm trying something from Lidia's book. A side benefit is all the wonderful stories she shares about her travels through the USA as she gathered the recipes. What a terrific book!

I recently purchased this cookbook and I am so glad I did. I have been watching Lidia Bastianich for years on PBS. I love her passion for food and her enthusiam for not only creating it but also sharing it with family and friends. She makes food seem warm and inviting. I have made three recipes so far from this book and I have enjoyed them all immensely. The Italian Wedding Soup was perfect for warming me up on a cold day. I especially enjoyed the flavor in the meatballs. The penne with vodka sauce was very delicious. I loved that there was just the right amount of vodka to give it flavor but not be overpowering as it sometimes can be in other recipes. I also made the Chicken Trombino. What a great way to relieve the monotony of weeknight cooking! I cannot recommend this book enough. I will definitely purchase her other cookbooks in the future.

This is one of Lidia's cookbooks at it's best, lots of wonderful recipes - Some classic from her older cookbooks but also lots & lots of new recipes we are so excited to try! I bought this book for my Mom & had it autograhed by Lidia herself at one of her book signings at Eatly in NYC! She is my Mom's favorite chef & Mom was exstatic with this Christmas gift for sure! Gotta LOVE Lidia!!!

Creating a meal with Lidia is like taking a trip back in time when you were young and your Nonnie was in the kitchen. The smells, tastes and memories were wonderful and simple. What a treat to have this book and enjoy foods from Italy and American coming together like the immigrants in past times. Thank You Lidia
