In the meantime, the gate to the Underworld is vulnerable. The pixies have weaved pixie dust to keep the evil denizens from escaping, and pixie guards are there to monitor the strength of the weave. But this is a temporary solution; they need the power of the Carthage to repair the harp so that it can once again play music that will keep the evil creatures away.
Crystal has no idea how to flirt. But she knows her father's spies are keeping watch, so she must try. Some funny, entertaining scenes result from this. At the same time, she decides to use her robomaids--little dolls that scrub the floors--and augment them with her Listening Ears. Then she gives them to establishments in London she knows her father either owns or frequents to discover where her sister is imprisoned.
We are introduced to her 4-year-old sister, Gertie, and reintroduced to Allegro, who befriends Gertie posing as a tadpole. But Gertie knows he's special, and not an ordinary fish.
I don't want to tell any more because I want you to read it. And I can't wait for the next "Crinoline" book, which will conclude this story!
Since Crystal has been betrayed time and time again by her father and his cronies, she will have to learn to trust again. Same with Reginald, the hero. Throughout the centuries, Reginald has had to protect the Carthage, a stone of incredible power. He's had his share of betrayals, too.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and cannot wait for the conclusion in Truths & Crinoline!
