This is one of those books, where I wish the author was able to write them faster than I can read them. I am not one to give away more of the plot. Instantly this book demands your full attention. I love the main characters. They are described incredibly well. Weston Kincade makes you feel like they are friends you know, not some strangers you read about in a book. He makes you realize that in comparision, one has it pretty good, aspiring you to do better. If someone who grew up under such hard circumstances as Alex can go see the greater picture and figures out a way to do right and help others, everyone else should be able to as well. I found it very inspirational to say the least.
I am honestly having a tough time describing how this book makes me feel though. I am a reader and not a writer, but because I enjoy this book so tremendously I want others to read it as well and get as much joy out of it as I have.
Book 2: The Golden Bulls
The author just keeps me wrapped up in his world. This book is even better than the first one and trust me, I LOVED the first one.
Weston Kincade manages to up the storyline yet again with a very intricate plot that leaves you guessing and hoping it will resolve in the end. I literally ate this one up and could not put it down. I feel with the main character along every step and feel like he is a good friend of mine, tough to do well but Weston nails it. Weston has a way to keep you guessing and in the end still manages to give you something you didn't expect. He manages to work out an intricate storyline making it look seamless and effortless.
Everyone with a love for paranormal has to read this. He will be a huge success and I can't wait to read more from him.
Book 3: Sacrifices
Sacrifices is expertly written by Weston Kincade but sadly the last book in the Trilogy of "A Life of Death". I was hooked on this series from the very first page when I learnt about Alex Drummond. The beauty of this book, you don't have to have read the others to know what is going on, but you will be hooked so you may as well start with the others first.
Sacrifices has an intricate plot that is extremely well developed. The author weaves a web around the reader that entangles you and holds you firm in its grip. This book is impossible to put down so I didn't even bother to try. The book follows a perfect pace and never feels rushed nor ever dragged out. The twists are well executed and even though I am usually good in figuring out mysteries, this one I was just following along with what the author gave me, just really well done.
Alex is just such a likable character. I true standup guy I wish the world had more of. His son Jamie is growing up way to fast, but thankfully he has his dad to help him. Paige fits this duo perfectly, and balances them where they need it.
I have to say this book didn't end on how i expected it to and left me quite shocked, no I won't spoil it so read for yourself. I am sad this trilogy is over but hope the author will come out with more work soon. He is definitely on my watch list and when he has something new out I will pick it up. I can only recommend books from this author, who is clearly a master of his craft!
Voluntary review of Advance Reader Copy. I was given a complimentary copy of this book by the publisher.
Book one tells the story of Alex as a child; his unhappy times both as he was going through an abusive homelife and during his visions... which go on to change his whole outlook on life. Book two takes you into the world of Egyptian mythology while simultaneaously exploring the relationship with his wife (Paige) and with his growing son (Jamie). Book three is geared towards drugs and gangs while also sharing the coming of age of his son.
One of the things I love about Weston Kincade's writing is that he will lull the reader into thinking they've guessed who/why/what... and then, just as you're feeling all smug and clever, he'll blindside you with other things that you didn't even realise you were looking for or were expecting. Extra thrills and twists make this trilogy a must-read. I experienced plenty of "Nooooo!!" moments.
The books run nicely into each other, although I think they'd stand alone. But why bother with one when you can have all three?
These books aren't for children to read - they all contain some pretty graphic scenes. But for those that enjoy good descriptive passages and like to be kept guessing... this will tick your boxes. These are not short novellas - they are substantial books, each in their own right. Definitely enough to keep you going for a beach holiday... even if reading for a few hours each day.
Disclaimer: In return for an honest review, I received a copy of the trilogy. Thank you Weston!
Book 2 continues when Alex is an adult, married and a father of a son who has a similar gift, but a bit more advanced. This thriller involves Alex as Detective Drummond tracking a serial killer. And to really boost the enjoyment level, there is an ancient Egyptian connection.
Book Three is another thriller in which Alex, his wife Paige, their son Jamie and friends are featured in another murder mystery. No one is safe, not even your best friends, in this thriller about gang warfare at Jamie's high school. We also discover more information about Alex's deceased father and the gifts he had in Book 3.
You can imagine how Alex and Jamie's paranormal gifts can feature in the investigation of murders. Such knowledge must be kept secret from others. But it also puts them in dangerous, tense situations. Each story in the series is a stand alone thriller, but it is best to read them in order, since the characters and their relationships develop throughout the series.
If you enjoy murder mysteries, thrillers and the paranormal mixed in with lots of action, you'll want to check out this trilogy.
