I gave this four stars only because it is missing one very important song - It's all over now baby blue.
Primarily I bought the album because of Santa Monica Pier and I am not disappointed. I have a feeling it is going to be my summer of 2009 song much as it was my summer of 1968 song.
For me the ablum on a whole is the sixties in a light away from the mainstream Beatles, Jefferson Airplane, Janice Joplin . . . . All in all a very good investment.

I have long awaited the release on CD of recordings from this artist including my personal favorite, "Santa Monica Pier," one of several numbers included penned by Harrison himself and the leading track of an album of the same name, others of which are also included. Selections from the albums "Collage" and "The Great Electric Experiment" complete the album, a very generous 26 tracks in all. A very nice booklet with commentary from Harrison and many photos accompanies it, and it is a limited numbered edition: 2500 total. My copy is number 0291/2500, so Harrison fans take notice -- don't wait!

Something about Noel Harrison's choice of material grabs my attention very well. The songs in this collection are from Noel's Reprise years(1967-1970) and feature select songs from his three albums for Reprise and all of his Reprise singles. His early work actually leans towards psych at times, with sitar and a host of other Indian instruments, then we shift to some singer-songwriter oriented material. My personal favorite tracks are the two Baker Knight penned tunes, 'Don't We All Get Lonely Sometimes', and 'Another Virgin Spring'. Both feature great arrangements by Clark Gassman which really captures the feel of the songs. The liner notes and comments about each song by Noel himself were great to read and the remastering job by Reprise/Rhino is great.

This is a good overview of the British singer/songwriter/actor's recorded efforts although I remember seeing him perform an excellent version of Dylan's "It's All Over Now,Baby Blue" on Hullabaloo that I would have liked to have seen included here.As good as many of the songs are,Mr.Harrison's liner notes should be read as you listen. The combined effect is like having a conversation with this talented,charming,self-deprecating performer. If you haven't written your memoirs yet,Mr. Harrison, you should.I think they would be very entertaining.
