Review

A Life Less Anxious is genuine and practical. In a day and age where we "medicate first and ask questions later" it is great to have a resource to help people deal with their anxiety using proven techniques .... I highly recommend this book! --Tim Ursiny, PH.D., Founder, Advantage Coaching & Training and author of The Top Performer's Guide to Attitude, The Confidence Plan and The Coward's Guide to Conflict

In these stressful times, everyone can benefit from inspiring, practical suggestions on how to create peace of mind. Kudos to the author for this helpful book. Read it and reap. --Sam Horn, author of POP! and Tongue Fu!®

From the Author

I am a normal guy from the Midwestern U.S. in his early 30's whose life was once a constant struggle against extreme social anxiety and panic attacks. For over five years I battled my own scary thoughts, anxious feelings and worries that I could lose control of myself and my mind at any given moment.

Like many of the tens of millions in the U.S. who suffer from debilitating anxiety (and many more worldwide), I felt completely lost and hopeless at times. For years I turned to self-medication through alcohol, and doctors who prescribed just about every anti-anxiety and antidepressant medication on the market. I felt the medication numbed me both emotionally and physically, and worst of all - I was still anxious and having panic attacks! There had to be another way to beat anxiety.

My Personal Journey towards Freedom I spent years reading every book I could find on the subject of panic attacks, anxiety and psychology. I experimented with different therapies and mental-conditioning exercises, and explored various spiritual and religious approaches to life in the hopes of finding something that would help me.

I was determined to fix my anxiety problems without the use of any prescription medication or traditional talk therapy. Everything I learned and applied to my own life has completely changed me forever. I am free from panic attacks and my social anxiety problems, and have a new zest and excitement for life that I previously never thought I could achieve.

I wrote this book to help others free themselves from the shackles of panic attacks and anxiety, and to once again live a real life. I want everyone out there who is suffering to take the same journey towards freedom that I have taken, and to once again realize how amazing and wonderful life really is. You can put your life back together and live without the constant fears and worries that plague your mind now. Just imagine that!

No matter how bad off you feel you are, there is always hope. On many occasions I was just about ready to give up on life, feeling incredibly low, frustrated and hopeless. Yet I still was able to recover and create a new life full of hope and excitement for the future. I know you can do the same, and am hopeful that this book can help you along your journey towards freedom.

A Life Less Anxious: Freedom from panic attacks and social anxiety without drugs or therapy (Volume 1)

I have been struggling with Anxiety/Panic attacks since I was a teenager. I have read so many books, Listen to tons of CD's and bought an expensive Video program. None have ever helped me. Steves books is so well written, I read half the book the first night. Even thou I knew I wasnt the only one who struggled with Anxiety, this book shed a new light for me. I have yet to read a book where the Author so totally described my symptoms and understood what I am going thru. I am so glad I bought this book. Yesterday during a snow storm we were out doing errands I tried Steves breathing technique.. IT worked! I had gotten myself so worked up about the snow and fearing the "WHAT IFS" we slid off the road~~ I wasnt sure how I would ever make it home. I then started breathing as Steve says in the books and for the first time in my life,, I was able to get my anixety attack under control. Thank you Steve for writing this book. I highly recommend this bookfor anyone who is struggling with anxiety.

As a person who has suffered from anxiety, I found this book extremely relatable and very useful. Thanks to this book, I now know I'm not the only one. The book provides practical and realistic ways to alleviate stress in order to overcome debilitating anxiety. I have already begun to incorporate the techniques into my daily life. If you are suffering from anxiety and panic attacks, I would highly recommend this book. I only wish this book was written sooner.

I originally bought this book for my husband, a long-time anxiety sufferer relying on prescription medications to control his often-crippling anxiety. He will not attempt any treatments or read any books that seem fishy, new-agey, or "fruity." I decided to give this book a try as it didn't seem to fit into any of the categories to which my husband objects. I hit the jackpot with this book and I am so glad I bought it!

I have more trouble with depression than anxiety, and there were many tips that I have applied to my own life. The author is knowledgeable and funny, which keeps this book from being preachy, like so many self-help books are. I loved that he put detailed stories of what anxiety had done to him and his life. I was able to read those out loud to my husband as I read the book, and that did a lot to pique his interest in this book and actually give it a chance. This is the first self-help book I've ever found that my husband will actually read!

I know this review is getting long, but I have to add that the author addresses the side-effects of anti-depressants, which are regularly prescribed to help with anxiety. Namely, the sexual side-effects. It is difficult to discuss or admit that it happens, but it is such a huge drawback to those medications. This problem has had a tremendous impact on our life and it is one of the big reasons that we'd love for my husband to be off of the drugs.

This book. First off I really want anyone that takes the time to read reviews to know; that at the end of nearly every chapter or section he tries to get you to go buy some anxiety plan that clearly looks like a bs scam for money. I was intensely turned off by this and the poor writing. This was my FIRST time trying a self help book for my social phobia. And I got asked for more money repeatedly throughout it. I very strongly do not recommend this book.

I picked up this book through Amazon primarily hoping that it would give added insight/value to my son who suffers from crippling social anxiety. I found it to be of extremely limited benefit; for the most part, it reads like someone's personal diary or blog rather than something genuinely worthy of publication. Any bits of useful advice, for me, came predominantly in the form of the pearls of wisdom scattered throughout the text, these being penned by noted authors. I am glad that the author found his way out of his panic attacks and social anxiety but this book is largely a memoir of his own personal experiences; he is not an expert, per say, in the field. Still, it is to his credit, based on the predominantly positive reviews, that there are readers out there who clearly benefitted from his suggestions; I simply do not count myself as one of them.

A self help book that really helps. As a psychotherapist specializing in Anxiety Disorders, I know the journey can be a lonely one for many. Most people rarely have a chance to connect with someone going through the same emotional issue. The author gives you that chance to hear first hand, someone's successful story of recovery. The book can also be a resource for therapists as part of their recommended reading. The format facilitaties learning and the writing is easy to read, insightful and motivational. It's great to have the "how to" and the "hope", in one book. The well selected quotes are on target and well placed in the text. I highly recommend this book to those who suffer with life altering anxiety. Well done. I'll be looking for the sequel.

Here's a quick & easy way to figure out if this book will be helpful:
1) do your panic attacks, like the author's, always last for 30 seconds or less? Once they're over do you feel refreshed and completely fear-free?
2) while at your most anxious, are you only worried about what you might do wrong instead of what might happen *to* you?
3) is the trigger to your anxiety or panic attacks something you can easily gain access to daily?

If you answered yes to these questions, congratulations. This book may be helpful to you. However, if you are someone whose panic lasts for longer than 30 seconds, you will read the book and shake your head. If your fears are centered around things you cannot control rather than your own actions, this book will frustrate you. If you do not have the opportunity to face your fears head on multiple times a day (i.e. fear of flying, etc) then the advice in this book will be useless to you.

I suggest reading the free excerpt available from Kindle before purchasing this book. It's really all about the author, and if your circumstances aren't the same as his, look elsewhere.
