Life With Lily is a children's book and I am a great grandmother, and enjoyed every minute of it. It gives you a wonderful look into an Amish child's growing up years , as well as how the child, herself, thought about things...amazingly just like any child does. She will make you laugh at times and want to help her with her problems at others. Great book for children and adults.

This is the first of four novels about life with Lily. A charming little girl who gets into mischief and gives you lots of smiles and adventures while reading her story. We learn about her world, her days at school, and her family.

This puts me in mind of the Little House books, loved those when I was a kid. The Life with Lily books are recommended for kids ages 8-12 but I think kids closer to 7-8 will enjoy them most. 5 out of 5 stars.

I received an ecopy of this book free from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

I enjoyed reading this book, and so did my girls (it was really supposed to be for them, LOL). I love the way the story is told from basically inside Lily's head, and the author does a great job of presenting the world through the eyes of this young Amish girl. I also appreciated reading how much Lily's parents, and the Amish culture in general, loved and respected their children. They have kept the art of treating children as persons.

Such a sweet innocent well written story and viewing the life of an Amish child was so delightful. This is the second book I have read and though I think even a much younger generation would enjoy this lovely story.....I know us older adults would enjoy this as much as I have. Reading about Lily, her parents and brothers and the many other neighbors and friends was enlightening.

Set in upstate New York, in a small Amish community, 6 year-old Lilly Lapp and her family enjoy a simple life on their farm. Lily's days are filled with helping her mother, collecting the eggs, school, and playing with her brothers; 4 year-old, Joseph, and baby Dannie.

As I read this story to my little girls we were able to take a peek into Amish life through the eyes of Lily. They learned that Lily is a lot like them, she likes to play with dolls, color, help her parents, and sometimes she is naughty.

I enjoyed reading Life with Lily with my two daughters, who are 5 and 8. The story is reminiscent of Little House on the Prairie, and Lily reminded us of Laura Ingalls.

I recommend Life with Lily to children ages 5-12, but I think Moms will like the story just as much, if not more, than than their children.

Life with Lily is the first of four books in The Adventures of Lily Lapp series.

I've read this book twice now. The first time on my own and then I read it to my 5 and 12 year old girls. The stories are so cute and give a great picture to what it's like to grow up Amish. This whole series is a treasure!

An excellent children's book. Perfect for reading a chapter or two at night with a child. Some serious subjects are brought up in the story, but in such a way that they can easily be discussed with children. The glimpse into another way of life is entertaining and educational. The story is sprinkled with teaching moments, and Lily's responsibilities make her an admirable role model for little girls. Even role models get into trouble sometimes, and Lily is refreshingly real, without being worldly.

I LOVED this book! Back when I was young, I had "Little House on the Prairie" by Laura Ingalls Wilder. They are still with us, but those books took place in the past, and we had to try to relate to them in that way. Today we have REAL LIFE stories (many of them based upon the life of co-author Mary Ann Kinsinger of her and her brothers) that are taking place right now with other Amish little girls. Yes, Lily is a 6 year old Amish little girl, and this book is a fascinating account of her life for young and old alike! There really are little girls growing up just like Lily is in this day and age, which I find truly appealing, and think you will, too. The stories that happen to Lily, or that Lily creates, are intriguing and interesting to read! In this book we get to learn and find out what it really is like to be a little girl growing up Amish. The stories are fun and FULL of adventure of 'life on the farm', and so much more. We follow as her new little brother enters the world, to school, playing with her friends, and those friends can range from all of the animals on the farm, to her playmates as well. Adults are going to really enjoy reading this book aloud to children, and I think this book will appeal to ages 3 and up to Adult! Yes, I think the adults will enjoy these books just as much as the children will, especially this book being from the 6-year old's young Amish perspective. We are all very interested in how the Amish live, we learn a lot in this book through Lily. This book will be a series, with Book Two coming out in February 2013. This set of books will truly be classics that every little girl (and little boys may enjoy these books, too, as she has little brothers) should have in her library. They will be enjoyed immensely.Read more ›
