It is a dark story, lots of sex and violence. A killer is tearing people apart with his bare hands. Groups of people are spontaneously turning into marauding mobs and even animals seem to be affected by this urge for violence. This isn't a book for the faint of heart and don't say I didn't warn you that it is dark! Some of us crave this kind of story and we'll be delighted with Life Rage. Soares will be selling books for a long time to come, I predict, and winning even more awards.

Colleen is living a life of booze and sex with men she doesn't know--or remember later. After witnessing the brutal murder of her friend Turney, Colleen runs--right into the house of former playboy Jeremy, who has been a recluse since an accident physically and mentally scarred him for life. Jeremy's mysterious friend and roommate Viv has a power over people that can bring them ultimate pleasure right before death.
Sam is a therapist that treats people with anger issues. He believes he is a miracle worker because he manages to actually cure his patients. Sam also has a strange power that proves deadly to anyone who inadvertently crosses his path at the wrong time. Sam's wife Maggie senses something is different about the man she married. She has begun drinking more and more, missing work and going out to bars, where she meets Viv and pours her heart out to.
There is a killer on the streets the press have dubbed The Shredder because he literally tears people apart. The Shredder has killed at least forty people so far, and Turney was one of his victims.
The lives of these people will intersect and it will end badly for most--including some wide-ranging collateral damage.
While Life Rage takes a bit before the story gets going, once it does it is a dark, sexually charged novel with elements of the supernatural as well as the horrors of being human. Character development is well-done and thorough and I found myself either liking or disliking characters as though they were real people. For example, I didn't like Colleen very much. I found her to be shallow and self-centered, although in the end I felt Colleen did redeem herself, in my eyes. I found Maggie and Jeremy to both be sympathetic characters, although at times I felt Jeremy was a little "too good to be true". The story itself is complex with some very cool twists. It is unflinching in its savagery; a blood soaked story that is also brutally honest in its portrayal of the human condition. Life Rage has been nominated for a Bram Stoker Award and with good reason. I strongly suggest you pick up a copy.
