okay first of all let me say I am from Lick Skillet and I didn't know Harold but I did know his sisters or knew of them. Janice was a Senior when I was a freshman, and Nancy was a few grades behind me. Now as for the stories in the book they were almost like reading about my past, with the T.V., barn swing, and good ole LSU, I started there in the 7th greade, anyway getting back to why I rated this book with only 3 stars. I order both Life In the Skillet along with Lesson from the Skillet and Life along a Dirt Road, , I got the lessons first and it took ordering the Life 3 times before I fianlly got it, I had finished the first book weeks before I got the second and still haven't gotten the 3 book and I don't think I will, thinking I was getting 3 books by the same person, with story about the place I grew up, little did I know 2 of the 3 were the same book just different covers and titles. I was so dissapointed when I open Life in the Skillet to find I had all ready read the book, Now I'm scared to reorder Life along a Dirt Road or Reflections from the Front Poarch, They maybe the same book as the other 2 with different covers and titles. I read somewhere there was a chapter in one of the books title Snipp hunt gone bad, after two books I have yet to read it.

This book still ranks as one of my favorites, however I happen to know that a second title is on its way from Fanning. Be looking for "Life Along a Dirt Road" due Spring 2007!!!

What a great book! This is a hilarious look at southern life in the 1950's and 1960's from a unique perspective! I literally laughed until I cried. And, I am amazed by how the author seems to find an underlying lesson in every crazy story. This book is a MUST HAVE!
