About the authors

Ann Dunnewold, Ph.D., is a psychologist and author in Dallas. Specializing in women's issues, Ann's mission is to arm women against the pressures of modern motherhood. Ann has served as president of Postpartum Support International (PSI), and was the 2008 recipient of PSI's prestigious Jane Honikman Award for her service to postpartum women and their families. In addition to her writing and clinical practice, Ann offers training/development to women and mental health professionals on life balance, mind-body, and women's issues, in workshop settings, and via her blog at anndunnewold.com.

I was inspired to write this book after experiencing several challenges in my own life. In 2014, I had head surgery for a benign tumor in my inner ear. The recovery was tough and the mindfulness skills I learned made it bearable when I thought I would never feel better again. Then in 2015, I discovered a lump in my breast. I was extremely frightened and thought I could lose my life. During my surgery and radiation, I practiced mindfulness to ease the constant stress and tension in my body and mind. In 2016, I got a divorce after 31 years of marriage and my mother was diagnosed with dementia. I have overseen her health needs and financial affairs since then. The last four years have truly been a wild ride and without my mindfulness skills I would have been unable to have peace of mind and enjoy my life through these stormy times.
Dr. Diane Sanford is a psychologist, author, educator and mom. An expert in perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, she learned the importance of self-care in maintaining health and well-being while treating pregnant and postpartum moms, but kept searching for more effective ways to reduce anxiety, worry and self-criticism. For the past decade, she has focused on mindfulness-based solutions to remedy stress and negative thinking. Based on her experiences with hundreds of clients, training from different mindfulness and mind-body health teachers and her own life’s journey, this book offers professional guidance and personal insights that will teach you how to stress less and enjoy life more.

Dr.Diane Sanford has been passionate about helping women experience more health and satisfaction in their daily lives since counseling her first new mom 25 years ago. After experiencing mild post-birth depression herself, she became convinced that self-care is the key to surviving and thriving new motherhood and beyond. One of the most called upon women's health experts for the American Psychological Association, she has been interviewed for major women's and parenting magazines, websites, TV and radio shows including WebMD, CafeMom, BabyCenter.com, Parents, Good Housekeeping, NPR and Good Morning America. She received the award for Clincal Excellence from the National Association of Women's Health, and is an adjunct professor in the School of Public Health in St.Louis, Missouri where she lives with her husband and 2 daughters.
