From the start we learn that Penelope is pretty much a hot mess, she's late, clumsy, has almost zero brain to mouth filter. All in all, she's the type of girl you call when you want to have a good time.
That is, until she meets someone whom she wants to be better for. After the catastrophe that was her last relationship, she's not looking for anything. Until one drunken night on a cruise she meets someone who changes her world.
This book. This is the type of book you read when you're looking for a feel good book that will keep you entertained for hours.
Sometimes Penelope can be a little ridiculous, but that's what makes her so damn lovable. She stays true to herself, even when she feels that herself isn't good enough. You have to admire a person like that.
The sex is hot, the humor is on point, Life As We Know It is that perfect mixture of sexy and sweet that you read when you're looking for a break from all those tear-jerkers.
With a cast of characters that aren't really characters, but feel more like your best friend who always gets you in trouble, J.D. Hollyfield makes herself known to me, and I plan on getting to know her books very well.
I love the whole series because they center around a woman who has had her heart broken and is ready to move on, usually involve drinking and bad decisions, and a good dose of angst between the main characters. And Life as We Know It is no exception.
Penelope gets dumped and decides to still go on the cruise she had planned with her ex, except now with her best friend, who let's face it is probably not the best influence. They tend to get a little crazy together and end up in trouble in a hilarious way. On the cruise she decides to have a fling and lands in the arms of Sam- handsome, mysterious Sam. She thought it was just a one-night stand until she returns to work to learn one of her company's newest clients is.....her fling...of course.
Watching Penelope struggle with the boundaries of professionalism and the every persistent Sam who is determined to get her back into his arms and his bed, was quite entertaining. She doesn't make it easy for him...at all, but I love how it sticks it out and makes her just as crazy as she makes him. Their rollercoaster romance was one I couldn't leave for a moment and just when you thought it was all going to be just about love....let's throw in a few secrets and a political scandal with her ex that ties up Penelope in quite the mess. And while some of the twists and turns were a little predictable, overall, it was an easy, humorous, sweet, and steamy read...a great combination for the perfect escape.
