If you're going to use a laptop (which I do) you need to get a frame to attach to the desk so your laptop can sit at eye level. Then you get a good keyboard that can sit on the desk at about elbow level.
The software that comes with the product and links your mileage to your computer or your phone has never worked for me. I sometimes use a fitbit, which has much better software. But you can also just look at your mileage on the display and write it down before you turn off the treadmill. Honestly, if you're using this desk as your main desk, you slowly get less obsessed with mileage (even though it's fun at first) and you just PREFER to do your work while walking. I strongly recommend starting your work on the treadmill desk in the morning and committing to an hour a day; it's hard to do it in the afternoon, and without a firm commitment to making it part of your daily habit, the thing will just collect dust. But once you use this desk for a few months, you'll find that your attention span is better, you can focus for hours at a time, and you're much more productive while walking than you are sitting down/ achey/ half asleep. You'll also find that you walk and stand more the rest of the time, because that's what your body is used to doing.
I can't say enough good things about this desk. I use mine 3 hours a day, sometimes run on it (goes up to 4 miles an hour, which is not that fast but fast enough that you'll break a sweat), and it's holding up just fine. Definitely get the spray that lubricates the treadmill and keep an eye on the belt to make sure it's not listing to one side or the other (you adjust that by tightening one side more and loosening the other - takes a second - I've done this maybe 6 times over the year and three months since I bought the desk). Honestly I don't know why more people don't use treadmill desks.
I do want to add that if you're over 35 you probably should also do SOME cardio, strength, stretching a few times a week. If you never do that stuff to balance out your routines and you just walk, you might get repetitive stress injuries from using the desk alone all the time. I do P90X3 or Hard Corps 3-5 times a week (about 30 minutes each); prevents knee and hip and back problems. Throw a minimal strength/ cardio routine into the mix with the desk, though, and you'll be in the best shape of your life. I am not some fitness freak, but I really can't stress enough what it difference it makes to be able to get work done WHILE WALKING. It's just awesome. Best $1800 I've ever spent, hands down. It's improved my life more than I can possibly express here. GET THIS DESK!
Bad: Assembling the desk is NOT a one man job, and the people that came up with this assembly should be strung up by their toes. There is NO WAY a human being can slip their fingers into the tiny space underneath the desktop and actually connect the electronics. The only way to do it is to get two people to hold the desk up above the mechanism, and have a third person do the connections. So it takes three people to do that part. There is no way to set up bluetooth with your iPhone and if you want to use their app you have to PAY MONEY to have an account. No thank you. I've just spent over $2K on your product. On their website, this table shows that the only compatible app is the Active Trac and it's only compatible with Android (http://www.lifespanfitness.com/apps).
