Mr. Gomm's focus is on Lifeboat 6. However, it is a tribute to all of the men on the Fort Lee and to all Merchant Mariners and U.S. Navy armed guards that served the free nations during World War 2.
It is quite evident that Mr. Gomm spent more that a few years researching the events leading up to this incident.
During WW2, over 1600 merchant ships were either damaged or sunk with over 8,000 mariners and 2,300 Navy armed guards lost. The Lend Lease Program would most likely have been a failure if it had not been for the sacrifices of the men in the Merchant Marines and the U.S. Navy armed guards.
We are forever in debt to these men who helped save the free world.
My dad, "Pop" was in Lifeboat 6 and a survivor. I am his son.
Thank you Mr. Gomm
