It only glows when it is placed under bright light for four hours or more and only on the side facing the light of course. I left it in my kitchen under a hanging light. The top side glowed dimly after hours absorbing the light. You would have to leave it in an exposed area of your car for hours on a sunny day to have any glow at night if you needed it.
It comes with a holder which basically looks like how your razor would sit in its cradle. There are no screws but there are 2 holdes presumably for nails or screws. It does have a really sharp double prong on each end of the bottom which slides out about 2 inches. My husband guessed that maybe you push the prongs into the carpet?
I want my family to be safe if we ever ran off of the road into the river etc. but I will hunt for one like I bought before that is truly like a hammer in its weight and with the longer seatbelt cutter blade. These are worth about $4.99 each without the cradle in my opinion.
The product is hefty, well constructed, and comes with a handy holder that can be mounted just about anywhere in a car. However, I chose to remove mine from the holder and simply carry it in the center console of my car. In an accident the holder and hammer could come loose and be anywhere after the crash, since it's only held on by double-sided tape. In the console, I at least know where to start looking for it.
I can't comment on how well it works. I hope I never have to find out.

I hope I'll never have to use them but they should be standard equipment in all cars.
