Product Description
LifeHammer's Original Emergency Hammer is a high-quality car escape tool, designed to help prevent automotive entrapment after an accident. Should power locks become disabled or a safety belt jam after an accident, the double-sided steel hammer heads allow the vehicle occupant to shatter side and rear windows, while a safely concealed razor-sharp blade cuts easily through safety belts. This product includes a mounting bracket (made of tough ABS plastic) for convenient installation, a polypropylene grip and handle, and a florescent pin which glows in the dark for easy retrieval. Made in Holland.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 6, 2024Size: 1-PackVerified PurchaseJust holding & swinging it (testing it for balance & feel but, not hitting anyone/anything) I think I’ve definitely made a great purchase. I can feel the durability in it & the weight of it is lite enough for even a kid to use considering that a kid would have to know how to use it. It’s very easy to use & with steel points on opposite sides of the head, that adds versatility to it allowing the user to hit in 2 directions without having to turn it around. I tested it for sharpness on some glass in a trash can & it performed perfectly. This type of an in vehicle safety tool has to be made using a high visibility color because in a time of need some people may panic so standout appearance is of vital importance. It also comes with a bracket so that it can be placed where the user would have the LIFEHAMMER easily accessible in a time of need.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 26, 2011Size: 1-PackVerified PurchaseThis is a great little tool that fits in your console, ready for use if you survive an accident. The idea of needing it is not a pleasant one, where you've been in an accident and your seat belt is jammed, and window stuck closed because your battery got creamed in the collision. Both of these things happened to me in an accident that fortunately didn't end up submerged in water, which would've made it a fatal one, though I'd survived the impacts. Since that time, I carried a box cutter in my console but had no solution for breaking through a window, other than hammering it with the other end of the box cutter after cutting through the seat belt. Then I found Life Hammer on Amazon, and wondered why I hadn't thought of it.
What else? I was an Industrial Safety Consultant for 33 years and I didn't know about this item until I saw it on Amazon. If there is anyone you love who drives, you should make sure they have one of these items. Even if you don't like yourself, you should have one. There is no more helpless feeling than being trapped in a car that could catch fire and not being able to get out.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 10, 2012Size: 1-PackVerified PurchasePlace this somewhere that it WON'T GO FLYING ABOUT in the car if it tips upside down, such as in a sever car accident. Think, if you get in a car accident and your belt is stuck, what will you use to get yourself out. The life hammer will do it.
IT WILL NOT WORK if you keep this in the glove box where you cannot reach it. Keep this near you or try to actually put two screws under your dash panel . . . like near the cup holders so that it is in front of your stick shift or in front of your gear box. I have not tested the hammer part thank God but the cutter is sharp. I have tested this on some thin rope I had around a container I had in my garage.
The other smaller hammer-like styles out there just don't do it for me. I think this is the best one and is the most reliable. It is recommended by some Dutch highway authority or something like this.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 8, 2012Size: 1-PackVerified PurchaseAfter reading all about this, and watching videos I figured this would be a handy tool to have in the car. The quality is ok for it's purpose (to cut belts & break glass). The bright orange is good for easy location. Big flaw is in the holder: THE TOOL IS VERY DIFFICULT to get out of holder! The first few times I tried it, and my wife tried it, it literally flew out of our hands! That's NOT a good thing in an emergency. The holder has to be attached somewhere via either screws (screw holes provided, but no screws), and velcro or double sided tape. The problem with those choices are that the tool is so very hard to remove from it's holder that if the holder "WERE" attached with tape or velcro, the whole unit (holder & tool) would come off together. Also, there's a little "glow in the dark button" on the bottom of the holder that's supposed to help locate it in the dark (or murky water?). Forget that. It's useless. I checked it in a dark room, and Knowing where it was, it was barely visable. What would you do in a frantic situation in a dark surrounding? Look for a little gree button? Overall, I would toss the holder and keep the tool, as it's a nice comfortable size & weight, and has two striking edges which is a real good idea in an emergency. I don't know how well the belt cutter works but it seems to be safely designed (I hope I never have to find out). Summary: tool would be great to just "have handy in the car" for yourself, or if you should come upon an accident scene where breaking the glass would be necessary (also cutting belts?). I first considered those little "key ring" models that has a spring loaded punch for breakng glass, but let's face it, instincts demand us to "smash" when trapped so I can't see holding a tiny little device up to a window and "pushing until the spring snaps to break the window". With this thing you just whack the window down low, and get out.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 19, 2014Size: 1-PackVerified PurchaseI'm a qualified rescue diver and this tool is well-made and serviceable in an emergency when you want to egress your vehicle mount it near the center or someplace you can reach it easily, even if the airbags go off. Well designed, well made, and I hope neither ou nor I will ever have to use it.
If you ever find yourself in your vehicle in the water, leave your seatbelt fastened, breathe as you can, slow down and think of what you will do next = steady yourself, and grab this tool with one hand. When the car stabilizes, be sure you have a full breath of air, cut the seatbelt - it might not release easily with the buckle - and when the water is pretty much high and you have equalized the pressure in and outside the car, egress. The punch side of this life hammer works on the glass dry or wet, so you have a way out even if the electric winder fails.

DANReviewed in Canada on July 3, 20145.0 out of 5 stars Good Quality
Size: 1-PackVerified PurchaseExactly what I expected. Small enough to fit in my glove box, but big enough to fit your hand comfortably. I haven't tried it out on anything to test the seatbelt cutter and I would caution people not to try it out. I've read reviews of people trying it out on old seatbelts but it states on the instructions that the cutter is for one time use only. The cutter will get duller as it is being used. I hope to never have to use it but if I have to, then I want optimum sharpness. This is a good "peace of mind" item to carry in your vehicle.
Maureen CarlReviewed in Canada on August 6, 20145.0 out of 5 stars I hope I never need it
Size: 1-PackVerified PurchaseHopefully I will never need to use it. It is light and small enough for my daughter to work in a booster seat, but the metal end is definitely heavy enough to smash out the window if we have to.
