Using the graphic format of Pollan and Levine's best-selling Lifescripts, freelance writer Antoniak has boiled down 101 major life projects to their most essential steps. The book is divided into four parts: "The Basics," which covers how to approach a problem in general; "Career and Business," which tackles how to find a job and get a raise, etc.; "Personal Finance," which discusses how to improve one's credit rating and so on; and "The Consumer," which includes guidance on buying a used car. Each project is given an overview of up to two pages, followed by a to-do list of 20 to 40 steps. Although the information is clear and accessible and the graphics helpful, Antoniak oversimplifies projects that require very detailed information to avoid costly mistakes. For home collections, Lifemaps could serve as a handy preparatory reference. But library patrons will be looking for more comprehensive, project-specific information. Not recommended. Great book! Great Value! Tons of Information!

I didn't know what to expect when I bought this book but I was pleasantly surprised! It offers so much great advice for dealing with a variety of life's situations. The advice is simple & easy to read. There are so many topics covered, I liked the section on personal finance the most. Although the parts dealing with family situations are very useful, direct and to the point, like tracing a family tree, dealing with problem neighbors, etc...I recommend this book. It a good home reference book.

The school of hard knocks in one package

What an amazing achievement. Antoniak takes life's most problematic tasks and turns them into easily followed step by step processes. From the monumental -- buying a home -- to the mundane -- shopping for a used car -- Lifemaps offers solutions. Buy this book and you won't need to fill up your shelves with lots of other how-to books. Since I bought it I've used it dozens of times...and I've bought copies for all my kids too.
