The Lifetime 1221 Pro Court Adjustable Portable Basketball Hoop with 44 Inch Impact Backboard is perfect for recreational home use. The Lifetime 1221 portable basketball system features a 44 inch Polyethylene backboard, a classic basketball rim and a 27 gallon Pro Court base. The telescoping post allows you to adjust the basketball goal from 7.5-10 feet in 6 inch increments, so that players of any age can enjoy the game at their level.
Hone your jump shot in your spare moments or perform a backyard dunking drill with this Lifetime portable basketball system. Unlike in-ground basketball hoops--which are typically anchored in concrete--this portable hoop rolls on wheels, letting you position the basket support in your desired location, from the back patio to the middle of the cul-de-sac. All you have to do is fill the 27-gallon base with water or sand and play.
The Lifetime hoop adjusts from 7.5 to 10 feet in 6-inch increments.
And players needn't worry about the 44-inch backboard wearing dramatically over time thanks to the UV-protected, high-density polyethylene construction. This sturdy plastic material helps the board resist chipping and cracking while protecting the graphics from fading. Also equipped with a black, powder-coated, three-piece pole, the Lifetime system carries a five-year warranty.
In the beginning, all the founder of Lifetime Products wanted was a sturdier basketball pole for his backyard. With this in mind, he found and purchased a piece of heavy-duty used pipe, a sheet of plywood, and a basketball rim. The resulting backyard basketball standard functioned perfectly in his backyard. Seeing the potential of his hoop, he placed an ad in the local free classified newspaper and made his first sale. The rest--as they say--is history. He created the American PlayWorld Company in 1973, based out of his garage in Riverdale, Utah. After expanding into several other types of playground equipment, he eventually moved to a bigger location in South Ogden, Utah. Several years later, the company transformed the basketball industry by introducing the Quick Adjust basketball pole, the first complete basketball system you could raise and lower with a broomstick. In 1986, American PlayWorld created Lifetime Products, a separate company intended to concentrate specifically on manufacturing adjustable basketball systems. In the ensuing years, the company has grown from having 18 employees in a 32,000-square-foot space in half a warehouse to more than 1,400 employees and 2.6 million square feet over 23 separate buildings.

Update --- November 26, 2017 --- it's been one year and it looks and functions as good as new. No bend in the hoop, no color fading on the backboard, no loose bolts, no leaks in the base, and no rust on the stand. Over the past year, it's been garage kept when not in use. However, I've kept it out on the weekends this past summer as long as no rain was expected. This Fall, I've left it out all day and night (plenty of sun and rain). It gets used almost daily. It has held up well to the elements. I'm very happy with the purchase and the price is fair compared to the competition.
Update.... Two years old and no issues, absolutely no sign of fading or deteriorating. It's been left out for months at a time and other times brought into the garage.
Update....... 3.5 years and still solid. Left it out all Summer and Fall. I checked all the bolts and nuts but nothing is loose or rusted. I used some WD-40 and a wire brush on on small spot on the back of the pole that appeared to be developing rust. Otherwise, still great.
Update.... 4 years. It's been out since February this year (it's July/2020). No rust, no fading, nothing is loose, no leaking from the base. This thing is solid. I paid $100 four years ago. Still as good as new.

Price: 5/5 cheapest around for a good brand.
Construction: 2/5 the plastic base is thin and the backboard is too light. The rim is solid. The straight design means you have to be careful to not hit the pole any time you drive in and a LOT of shots will bounce off the base. You will be chasing the ball often.
Assembly: 5/5 put it together by myself in about an hour.
Functionality: 2/5 I bought this to hone some basic skills at home. Sadly it's just to unstable. The backboard is not study enough (shots do not bounce well) and the straight pole makes for lots of bounces as the ball falls.
Conclusion 3/5: if you have absolutely no more money or if you are purchasing this for a child it is a decent, useable hoop. However if you are remotely serious about improving your skills or having an authentic basketball experience at home I'd spend more for a higher quality hoop.
Around here most kids have hoops and they leave them outside. I was kind of nervous about doing that because I feared someone walking off with it, but every other household with kids has one. So mine isn't special, but I'm a N.Y.-ker, so I think about things like that. I even considered putting it in the garage when not in use, but because it's so heavy and would have to be maneuvered, tilted, pushed, I realize it won't be easy for any thief. So I won't worry about that <biting nails>.
Anyhoo, for the price and for what you receive, this is a steal (pun intended). 10 1/2 feet is high enough for the kids to grow with and it appears to be durable.
I need it to be mobile enough to be moved on a daily basis, so I filled the base up with water instead of sand thinking it would be light enough for me to move around myself. It's really sturdy with water, but too heavy for me to move myself. I'm thinking I'll empty enough water out for me to be able to move it, and then throw some sand bags on the platform once in place.
All in all I find it simple to set up, though two people would make the process quicker. I took me about 2 hours, and a lot of that time was spent messing around with my stupid tools. The instructions weren't super clear, but if you have any experience with technical reading you will figure it out.
I was looking on Craigslist for one of these, and the asking prices weren't too far off from what I paid for this new. Plus, I didn't have to borrow a vehicle to go pick up a used one. I'd rather spend a little extra money to have it delivered to me and set up myself.

Instructions where not right at all (lost a star because of that) my husband looked at the picture to put it together.
Kids (and hubby) loves it!
P.s. if you're going to use sand to fill the base... do not use play sand. Make sure its dry sand. It's very difficult and time consuming to fill it with playsand as it is wet. Doable but very hard and time consuming.
