Two of the young ladies were classmates of mine; they are women of high character who have gone on to lead successful lives.
Joyell has never shown any remorse for his actions. Despite the mountain of evidence against him, he appealed for reinstatement of his teaching license on a legal technicality. Kudos to the State of Connecticut for denying the appeals and keeping him out of the classroom.
I wonder if Joyell sees the irony of titling his book "Before the Death of Childhood"? He was an English Lit teacher, after all. I was in his class.
While reading it, I often thought "my child's principal/teacher should read this" or "I wonder what my neighbor/husband/friend would say about that". I can't wait for my husband to finish reading it so we can discuss it together!
I think this would make a great book for any book club - there is so much to debate and upon which to reflect!
