I purchased this mold in addition to the T-Rex Fossil Silicone Ice Tray with the intent of using it for chocolate as I wanted to make white chocolate dinosaur fossils for a cake. I was impressed with how easy this mold released the chocolate once it set. I tried it with and without a releasing agent, and it worked both ways. The detail was perfect in both cases. It made for a really fun detail for the cake.

So the mold looks great, and overall, we;re happy with our purchase.

For us though, this is a 4-star review because:

a) the mold is on the smaller size (not really their fault, I could have read it more thoroughly, but think, less than 1.5 hand-spans)

b) the ice cubes themselves (just the indented parts) are cool and bone-line, but you definitely lose the fact that it's a triceratops.

Honestly, my kids are happy just treating the tray as a toy and playing with it... but as an mold... it was a little below my expectations.

First off- these are small- I am using them as molds for plaster dino bones in a sandbox for a school event. As long as you accept that the whole dino is smaller than a sheet of paper it is a fun mold! I have tried spraying with non stick coating and using without the coating and found that it doesn't need it- as long as you make the plaster thick. The tail is the worst to easily remove and will often break. :) Have already recommended to others- just really wish they were bigger- making ice in these would be agonizing and time consuming to constantly refill for multiple people.

I got this and the T-rex mold for making white chocolate for a dinosaur themed cake. The cake had chocolate pudding as filling, and on top was frosting, the "bones" and smashed homemade oreo cookies as "dirt." For the birthday party we all excavated fossil bones! It was fun for everyone! Just make sure you grease all the small crevices before pouring in your chocolate and it comes out no problem.

Fun ice cube tray for any dino lover. I actually used it as a chocolate mold and it worked great for that as well. :) easy to get the pieces out since it is flexible.
