About the Author
Best known as a creator of the first book superstore chain BOOKSTOP (sold to Barnes & Noble) and business information source Hoover’s (now part of Dun & Bradstreet), Gary Hoover has been an author, bookseller, and publisher. His love for business began at the age of 12 when he subscribed to Fortune Magazine. What followed was an education in liberal arts at the University of Chicago, including studying economics under Milton Friedman, two years picking stocks on Wall Street, and seven years learning the retail trade at major department store chains. He then began his life of founding companies. Gary has given over 2,000 speeches about building great enterprises in 30 countries and writes regularly on Hooversworld.com and LinkedIn. The first Entrepreneur-in-Residence at the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin, Gary is now active at UT’s graduate School of Information (including library sciences) and the University of Chicago. A self-described “information junkie,” Gary’s story is one of lifelong curiosity about every aspect of people and life.

The bottom line is that Gary's book is the best I've ever seen to systemically take you through this process so you too become a lifelong learner. And no matter what career path you take, whether it is entrepreneurship or climbing the Fortune 500 ladder, this book will change your life. So dig in now and start learning how to successfully learn for life!
In today's world of instantaneous self-gratification, social media schlock talk, and the ever seductive internet, too many people are growing up without ever knowing the real thrill of discovering a good book or even knowing what is in fact a good book. Gary's book should be required reading at some point in every public school and certainly prior to any college attendance. Everyone should keep a copy on their desk.
The book presents a guide on how we can a book in thirty minutes and retain the knowledge in our minds. There are brief guides on how we can continuously gather information to nurture knowledge and continuously learn in our lives.
I was very impressed by the recommendation of 160 books that everyone should read. Some of the books I had never heard of but will definitely look for and read.
In today's world when most people acquire cars, clothes and jewellery as material possessions and want huge TV sets for their homes, no one gives a thought to investing in knowledge or books. Gary Hoover has 57,000 books in his home which take up a large space in his room. I found that very inspiring and noteworthy.
If I had to list one person that really inspired me this year or that I really wanted to meet, it would be Gary Hoover without a doubt.
Gary Hoover’s latest tome has to be required reading for those wishing to survive the Information Tsunami now a constant of life as we know it. In it is the key to the undoing of the Gordian Knot that is before us: How to plow through critical information as it hits the airwaves despite the disappearing available time. Those who know Gary are aware of how he Hoovers data, synthesizes, then links them into practical advice. Who might benefit from The Lifetime Learner? Surely entrepreneurs facing their own conundrums or generalists needing to transform into specialists, lovers needing to go beyond the horizontal into the vertical, parents challenged with bored kids and then some. This is a treasure of a book! Annabella Morelos Chan
