I was introduced to Faulkner's work by a great high school English teacher and have read several of his novels including The Sound And The F2f guru, AS I LAY DYING, ABSOLOM, ABSOLOM a nd others. This novel n is written in bcc amore accessible style than some of Faulkner's more revered works, but I enjoyed it less. It's focus is more domestic and it seems to lack the epic sweep and cosmic questioning of issues of good and evil that his other works do. the ending seemed unnecessarily drawn out and . I was very tired of some of the characters when the book finally ended. I am glad we didn't read this one in high school. I don't think I would have gone on to read any other Faulkner works on my own if we had.
