Celtic Sea Salt is authentic, unprocessed whole salt from pristine coastal regions. It’s all natural, with no additives or processing. Additionally, it’s a nutritious choice you can feel great about. Our classic salt is more nutritious than table salt, because it retains the natural balance and spectrum of essential minerals, supplying the body with over 74 vital trace minerals & elements. A sprinkle of this sea salt is a healthy addition to any recipe!
Light Grey Celtic salt is a mineral-rich, whole crystal (coarse), moist salt that is completely unrefined and hand harvested. Dried by the sun and the wind, it retains the ocean’s moisture and locks in a vast array of vital trace elements. Light Grey Celtic gets its light grey hue from the pure clay lining of the salt beds where it is harvested. This salt is also non-GMO Verified, certified Kosher, lower in sodium and paleo-friendly.
Celtic Sea Salt is the original and most trust brand of sea salt, and is referenced in more culinary and nutritional books and journals than any other salt in the world. Since 1976, we’ve grown into a national and worldwide brand that has been recommended by doctors and nutritionists for its unique health benefits and by chefs for its unique taste.

In a recent article I read, "There is no evidence that pink Himalayan sea salt is healthier than regular table salt; if anything, there is reason to suspect it might be less healthy. It’s not “pure;” it’s full of contaminants. Its popularity is a triumph of marketing over science and common sense."
Compare the trace mineral and moisture content of sea salts*
Celtic Sea Salt Brand Makai Pure ………….. 23.10%
Celtic Sea Salt® Brand Light Grey Celtic®… 17.50%
Himalayan and other leading salt brands…….4.12%, 3.96%, and 1.68%

I believe sea salt from the Dead Sea is one of the best sources for natural salt. You can get it for relatively cheap at green grocers, and I chose to try this brand as my first grey salt because the name is trustworthy, the reviews are great, the product is quality, and was happy that the salt turned out to crunchy and delicious. I'm happy with the decision to move away from Himalayan, and next time I'll try their Makai as I didn't know it had a higher relative trace mineral content than this one.

It's good salt. I'll eat it right out of the bag. We use it as our go-to kitchen salt for cooking, seasoning, grilling, and finishing. Then we've got the regular iodized table salt for brines and, I don't know...goiters?
I'm not a connoisseur or anything, but I just like this salt.
The salt is great! But there is a learning curve. The salt in the grinder appears wet. The company says it still has brine in it. The salt is not course so while grinding, much of the salt just shakes out. I had no difficulty getting salt to come out of the grinder, but I am not sure I am really grinding the salt. The moist salt does make it disolve easily when cooking. The grinder is not adjustable; however, the top of the bottle does come off. The company websites gives examples of how you can dry the salt if you wish. I put mine on a plate overnight. I like the salt when it is a little drier. I will buy this again and I do recommend the product. It takes a little getting used to the idea od salt being moist after years of making sure salt stayed dry.
There are scads of reviews here, I imagine many have mentioned the fact that pronouncements across the internet saying that sea salts and regular table salt contain the same amount of sodium are BALONEY. So irksome the way wrong information gets repeated over and over on the internet, even echoed on TV 'til it's accepted as fact. This salt fiction is one of them. Sea salts vary in their proportions of sodium, but nearly all contain much less sodium than table salt. Other minerals also vary, which results in salts' different, characteristic flavors.
Finally, the way I use salt has changed over the years. Before using sea salt I dumped regular salt on everything. Then, I tried sea salt- first fine (which I also used liberally), then coarse, which is all I use now. I don't grind it. 1) While cooking, I find I enjoy measuring salt with my fingers, by feel as it were, and 2) when salting food at the table I find fewer, larger grains punctuate the pleasure of tasting the salt more than finer salt uniformly distributed throughout the food- I like the contrast between the food's natural flavor and the occasional salt flake. I find I use a lot less salt this way, and enjoy it more. I started using this 1-lb bag the first week in May of 2014- there's about an inch left in the bag, pretty good.
Anyway, love this salt!

I will start by saying that it is not even from the Celtic Sea (between UK, Ireland and France)! From their website: "Jacques began importing high mineral sea salt from the coast of Brittany, France. Over the years, the popularity of Celtic Sea Salt® grew and the supply could not meet the demand. With careful research, which included considerations of sustainability, mineral content, fair trade practices and quality, the sources were expanded. Celtic Sea Salt® is now sourced from several parts of the world, including coastal regions of Europe, Guatemala, and Hawaii."
So all these UK and European customers here are buying salt that we think is sourced close to home. Wrong! It is actually a Californian company selling you something that is sourced from all over the world! I think this is very misleading, as how many customers will go to the FAQ site of the salt company to check this. I certainly did not when I bought this. This is not mentioned anywhere on the packaging. And how have they trademarked "Celtic Sea Salt"? Is this the reason they can mislead us about the origin of their product?
Then the price. There is a French company called Le Paludier who actually sells Celtic Sea salt and it is at a cheaper price. And they don't pay "ambassadors" to promote their salt.
Now that I already have distrust towards the statements this company makes I will not be 100% sure of this (again from their site): "As of June, 2017 we sent a 1lb bag of our Light Grey Celtic® to McCrone Associates, Inc. Laboratory to perform a Food Forensic Analysis and were pleased to see the results were clear, "No rubber or plastic-like material was visible".
Visible - what is meant by that? It could be said that not to the naked eye? Why 2017 when we are now in 2021. Only 1lb? Isn't this something that should be checked in every batch especially as they say to justify their price: "While other salt companies may sell their salts for less, Selina Naturally® guarantees that our salts are wholesome, unrefined, quality-certified and Kosher."
About the salt itself. It tasted fine, like any sea salt. Less salty than table salt if that is something you are used to. It is moist so I would say it is not suitable for grinders (unlike they advertise, again!). This salt actually ruined my Cole & Mason grinder - it went all rusty. Maybe there are certain grinders that can grind this.
I feel we have been duped by this company called Selina Naturally. I am nowhere near knowing what would be the best salt - taking into account plastics, sustainability, and health - to buy and from where, but this company is not it.
I have since spread the salt in a dish and placed inside my airing cupboard in the hope it will dry out.
