" This is a very entertaining book. It is exciting, has great characters and great descriptions of the spiritual battles. This book is of the same caliber as Peretti's books, "Piercing the Darkness" and "This Present Darkness.""
"drags you in, like a smooth suspenseful movie."
"The world is complex and dynamic"
"Great book! Can't wait for more!"
"An excellent story by an author just coming onto the scene."
"If you enjoy fantasy literature with some novel elements and a flavor that you won't find anywhere else I can surely recommend picking up this book. Personally, I can't wait until the next book in the series is finished!"
From the Author
I like adventure.
There's nothing like the thrill of discovering new people and worlds in fiction. It's that sense of discovery and wonder that really enthralls me when I read. It is what I both loved to give players when I ran Role Playing Games as well as what I sought for in a good GM over the years.
I also like stories that have layers of meaning to them.
Sure, I love the escapist journey as much as the next guy, but if I can find a story that I can connect or learn from on a deeper level, It is really something else.
That is what I try to bring to this series. Something that first gives you an exciting epic adventure like the classic authors used to write. I mean, look back at the best adventures you read as a kid. That is the experience I sought to recreate here.
The Akiniwazi Saga is a 14 year adventure that I took to get to this point. I had three main philosophical questions that I wanted to experiment with and tried several ways to implement them till finally this book came about for your enjoyment.
1. Can there be a fantasy world based on non-alegorized Christianity?
2. What if the Vikings came to the New World but this time stayed?
3. What would a culture look like if it discovered steam power but not gunpowder?
4. Can I create a fantasy world based off of the Great Lakes geography, stories, history and myth?
Long story short, you can and how!
That is how Akiniwazi was founded. I realized that you could create a magical world that stuck with Christian scripture (which was the major stumbling block I had for years) but to do that, the "old world" of Europe, Africa and Asia had to remain precisely as we in the real world understood it. So the history of Akiniwazi is set just like ours is till the Vikings discover the New World. A New World, BTW, that is not exactly like we know it, because although the Old World has to remain the same, where The Americas are... that can be completely up for grabs. And grab I did! That is where the fourth aspect of Akiniwazi came in.
So pick up a copy, and enjoy the adventure in the complex and unique land of Akiniwazi!
