In Stina's case she felt it a burden, because she wanted to move to town, not have to be tied to the lighthouse as all of her family. But one fateful night may change that.
John was on a voyage to San Francisco to conduct business. Going overboard in a storm, he thought all was lost. But he sees a light coming toward him, and that light becomes more than just a rescue.
A wonderful story that made my heart sigh as I turned the last page.
After reading Libet’s story it’s fun to read her sister Stina’s story, it fits perfectly. Really enjoyed it.
If you ever have opportunity, I encourage you to tour a lighthouse. Climb those many steps to the top where the Fresnel lens sits and experience the small, unique space within.
Lighthouses provided guidance and hope for those who sailed along the coastlines of America before the modern technology of our day.
I appreciated the details of a Danish family living as lighthouse keepers. The names, speech, and recipe gave a deeper look into their background.
The main characters, John Andersen, spelled with an e, and Stina (Christina) Dinesen meet during a storm in which John has been washed overboard. It is attraction and soon after, love at first sight. But, both are young with different ideas from their families and each other of how they want to live their lives. I appreciated that this couples love life flowed within the bigger picture of the story and didn’t feel drug out just to meet a certain word count.
I received an ARC. My opinions are my own.
