This is a new author for me and I'm glad I found her! A great read and I'm about to purchase the second and third book.
This author has an easy writing style and a voice that is easy to immerse into, thus making for an enjoyable reading experience.
The start to the book is a little slow but necessary to be able to set the series' groundwork. The well edited and tight writing style allow for little distraction in the technical aspect of the book.
You will enjoy this mythology theme mixed with a western United States setting.
I'm diving off into book 2.
The flow of the book is fluid as the author creates a likable and interesting narrator, Petra. Petra is a mythological harpy that lives in the the Colorado Territory during the 1800's. I adore the sisterhood of these harpies, but of their friend Iris even more. Petra is likable; opinionated when it counts, but knows when to be quiet.
There were some parts that were a bit slow, but then again, I don't normally do fiction. So this could be more about my reading style than the book. I also didn't have the background knowledge of mytholodogical characters and found myself using Google at times. However, the author provides a codex in the second novel for this very purpose. It's like she read my mind!
