My review isn't going to do this book justice because I'm not great at expressing how I feel in words but holy flipping hell this book was good. M/M/M books are one of those books that can go really good or really bad. This one was really good. Just like the title the lives of Dev, Seth and Leaf are so smooth and natural just like breathing. There is no jealousy, no awkwardness and no unease at all. All three just fit so well together. Each man brings something differnt to the table and Dev conpletes Seth and Leaf like no other. Add in some amazing dogs and a little kitty and this book will melt your heart. I found myself putting the book down several times becauae I didn't want it to end. Amazing men and a beautiful love story.
Now, disclaimer. I am not a huge fan of menage/poly-amorous relationships. I do not judge anyone in the life who pursues a relationship like that. I respect any and everyone's right to have loving and consensual relationships, they need not fit my perspective of monogamy. I had the honor of reading this book and really do appreciate that opportunity. Even though I had a feeling that menage relationships would prove tricky for me to get into. I am more so annoyed about my personal hang ups when reading stories like these.
Now, I love Tia Fielding's writing. I love the way she can make you feel for the characters and learn from and about their struggles. However, I find it hard to like Leaf. For a majority of the novel, I felt that Leaf need not be in the picture. I did not feel anything towards him in regards to Seth and Devin. I did not understand his place in their dynamic. At times, I learned more about the dogs and their background than I did Leaf. Also, I found Devin to be slightly annoying because of how he came across in some scenes.
Usually, menage stories (that I have read in the past) are used for kink factor. Not so much for the relationship dynamic. So, I guess that is where my personal hang ups come from. I also do not always see how the three fit in the relationship. I usually end up only liking 1 or 2 of the three.
I did not connect with Leaf. I did not feel the connection between him, Seth, and Devin. I liked Seth. I did. Yet, I struggled to understand him and Leaf together. I think I might need to re read this one day and pin point why that connection escaped me.
And honestly, I am not entirely sure that Seth and Devin would make a good couple. It’s weird that I also did not think that Leaf and Seth made a good couple. Kind of confused as to why they were together in the first place, but then Devin came into the picture and I wanted it to make sense. I truly did. Yet, it (their togetherness) felt stilted at times.
