Amelia has sought redemption in Maple Valley for the past three years, after a difficult divorce left her reeling. The arrival of Logan Walker and his sweet daughter, Charlie, starts to mend her broken heart as they pursue the mysterious story of Kendall Wilkins, the town's oldest citizen, who died and left behind a secret. Amelia and Logan's love forms quickly in the short time they are together, brought together by small-town charm and their knowledge that people matter more in life than fame. Tagg (From the Start) fashions another endearing, pithy story of finding love at the perfect time.
The instant chemistry between the main characters makes this a delightful favorite, and their easy banter shines with Tagg's smart, witty voice. While Amelia Bentley is indeed perfectly likable, Logan Walker embodies everything that fans of contemporary romance find so attractive in a male lead. One particularly charged kiss is sure to have readers seeking alternate sources of oxygen! Written in Tagg's engaging style, this latest offering has plenty of dimension and heart.

Maple Valley became Amelia Bentley's haven after her heart and her dreams of a family were shattered. But when the newspaper she runs is in danger of closing, she pins all her hopes on a story that just might convince the new owner to keep the paper running.
After his biggest campaign success yet, widowed speechwriter Logan Walker has the chance of a lifetime: a spot on a presidential campaign. But first he has to return to his hometown to sell the newspaper he's suddenly inherited.
But instead of a quick sale, Logan finds himself helping Amelia chase her story. She's scrappy, but wounded. He's dependable, but lost. And working together to break the story on Maple Valley's unsolved mystery is just the start of the sparks that fly in the office and in their hearts.

"Tagg captures the familiar cadence of life in a rural Midwest community while bringing gentle compassion to such sensitive topics as grief over the death of a spouse. A thread of historical drama adds an entertaining element of tension to the book's quintessentially American plot, and its inspirational themes are prominent yet seamlessly woven into the dialogue and relationships. An engaging sequel and satisfying read, especially for fans of small-town romances."--Booklist
"Like Never Before, second in Tagg's Walker Family series, follows a close-knit, loving family as they struggle with life's uncertainties and losses. Endearing characters, deft writing, and an interesting historical mystery will intrigue readers, but the real gem is Tagg's well-handled theme of the need to trust in a loving, sovereign God."--CBA Retailers + Resources

I often find that many romance novels feature male protagonists that are attentive to the person that they are interested but show little concern for others. My favorite quality about Logan is that he shows concern for everyone around him: potential love interest, family, friends, acquaintances, and even including strangers. But don't worry, he is not too perfect. Logan is floundering, and he doesn't know how he can be an committed speech writer and a committed father. He is stressed and beginning to express his insecurities by being short with those he cares about in his life. Not to mention he is still grieving his ex-wife, Emma.
After publicly embarrassing divorce and a chance of having a family been torn away from her, Amelia has found sanctuary in Maple Valley. Only after living there for a couple of years, she has become an influential and well-liked member of the small town. So when she learns that the paper is in danger of closing, she is determined to prove to the new owner that the paper is worth saving. She just needs a big story to prove it. Maple Valley is her home, where she belongs and feels comfortable. Amelia is not about to give that up; even for a job at a bigger paper.
I just loved Logan and Amelia's many awkward first encounters, all of Amelia's historical facts, and her realistic take on fashion. The author does a wonderful job of balancing humor, romance, and more somber moments. I feel as if this review does not do this book justice. Again just let me express how much I love, love, loved it. I can't wait for the next book in the Walker Family Series featuring Beckett.
This book was provided to me by the publisher in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and options expressed are my own.
First off, I have grown to love the Walker family-- even though some of my family members think I'm a little strange for saying that about fictional folk... "they aren't even real!" :|
Really, though, this family is so lovable! Each has his own place as a minor character and I love that you get glimpses into the members of this family without feeling that they're taking over the story at all. They're loving and hurting and injured and growing and just so wonderfully imperfect. How could a person not love them? Honestly, I wish they were real so I could go visit them! ;)
Logan and Amelia are both people of strong character and principles. They both come from difficult pasts. And they both have their lives planned out and know what they want for their future... sorta. ;) I loved watching them grow and change through this story. And I also loved that, though it didn't feel like that much time had passed, their relationship developed over a couple months rather than being rushed.
Did Logan live up to my expectations? (Anyone who follows Melissa Tagg online at all will know what I'm talking about here.) Yes! He absolutely did. He's a wonderful character! And Amelia-- she's just so perfect for Logan. And her having a crush on him because of his writing (hope that's not a spoiler for some of y'all) is just adorable!! <3
And Charlie. She's... Well, you'll just have to read the book because I really can't even think how to begin to describe her. She was perfect. Not as a person, of course, but I thought her character was written fabulously. Kudos to you, Melissa Tagg, for making me like this little girl more than I have liked a child in a book in a long while!
I shall end by saying that I am excitedly awaiting another book from this author. She has impressed me to no end and I can't wait to get my hands on more of her writing!! :)
I received a free copy of this book from Bethany House Publishers in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
