I loved this romantic tale of a sea god and the human he 'built an island for.' This lovely story with several twists and turns is a must-read for those who crave the escapism of fantasy.
I think that I only had one issue that makes me say that this only gets 4.5 stars instead of a full 5 stars, and that is in the introduction of Ash & Cooper. I felt that the characters we were introduced to in the beginning of the book were not actually the characters that were developed as the book progressed. Ash was someone of great power and training who was so dangerous that Cooper's parents were concerned about his safety. Cooper was a struggling architect who had occasional flashes of insight into the rocks/earth around him, but his family didn't take him seriously. But, as the characters were developed, it changed to Ash being powerful but basically untrained and Cooper having that same amount of power, but his family thought he was a squib in their wizarding world. I could understand Ash, to a degree, as being a misunderstanding of others about how well trained he was, but Cooper's situation felt more like there was a major shift in the plotting of the story that occurred after the introduction was written and the edits didn't take that into account.
Having said that, once the story gets going, it was excellent! I loved that once Cooper finally accepts that he can have feelings for Ash, it is their powers that actually keep them apart. I have so many questions that I want to have answered in the coming books about the ley lines and what people had done to the node that Ash & Cooper found. The books in this series will definitely be on my must buy list as soon as they come out.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
The author tells a lovely story of the journey they have to travel to come together with all the bumps in the road you can expect with falling in love. Along the way they get help from Cooper’s Uncle Owen who guides them in the right direction.
It is intertwined with paranormal elements, that are described so beautifully and naturally that they become believable and to be honest ‘normal’.
It is the first book in a series and I am looking forward to reading more about Ash and Cooper.
I have received a free ARC and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
