Olivette Devaux has a great talent of writing the paranormal as if it is the most natural thing in the world. It is very different from any other paranormal novel I have read. She introduces us to Cooper’s family and friends who have their own specific elemental power. Together they are able to fend off the immediate danger of forces that are living underground. She uses the elements of the Elements to create a unique paranormal love story. Working against or working together make all the difference. It is finding the perfect balance that is the most important, for their owners and for the world we live in, being in the paranormal or the real world.
Well written with a flow and smoothness that had me turning the pages. It is full of surprising twists and turns and suspenseful components that kept me on the edge of my seat. With her vivid and animated descriptions of surroundings and sceneries, she creates an otherworldly feel to the normal world.
This book is all about cementing the relationship between Ash and Cooper. It is not about falling in love but about being in love and learning to navigate through all the difficulties that are thrown their way. The connection between these two men goes beyond the physical and emotional toward the spiritual.
This is the second book in the Disorderly Elements series and cannot be read as a standalone. The story ends with a definite hint to a third book. I can’t wait to read this.
This was such a great book. I had a hard time categorizing it because it stretched across so many genres and skirted several more. I wish I'd read the first book in the Disorderly Elements series so I had the background of how Ash and Connor met and Connor discovered his talent. Nevertheless this was a wonderful story with bad guys, good guys, paranormal activities, threats, love, loss and threats to the survival an entire city. Best of all was the love, tenderness and care the main characters showed to each other and those around them. I have to go to Pittsburgh, again, and track down some of these places! (As soon as I get on Google Earth to see if they're really there or not.)
Please read this book. You'll come away with some new ideas and things to ponder.
I received a complimentary ARC of this novel. This is my honest, voluntary review.
