By about 30 pages in, Mollen has resorted twice to the “there are two types of “___s” gambit (in addition to simply calling others, “the type who”) and tried to shock-jock the reader’s pants off by declaring her anorexic temptations scarier than a concentration camp, comparing a bad romance to a “fiery plane crash into a tall building,” and deciding that a former boyfriend (unfindable on social media) killed himself. And she’s anorexic and bulimic in somewhat graphic detail. And she has a long way to go to becoming a current L.A. writer, actress, and (per the jacket copy) “one of the funniest women on Twitter.” She can be funny, but her shticks and tics are lazily apparent. And for her worldview (and memoir) to work, everyone she deals with has to be missing a bolt or two as well (e.g., “All the Best Men Are Either Gay, Married, or Your Therapist” and “Nobody Wants to Be Your Fucking Bridesmaid” and “You Were Molested”). She is hiply raunchy, raunchily hip; add her to that list and purchase according to demand. --Eloise Kinney --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.
