This doesn't take a rocket scientist to assemble and use. It is pretty easy by unclamping the two clamps on each end of the extension bars. Put it around your metal head rest supports. Clamp down the clamps and place your tablet into the spring-loaded holder. Unclamp the tablet holder and slide to your desired position for your child being on the left-hand side or the right-hand side or in the middle for a dual viewing capacity. Then adjust the angle with the locknut and secure it down so that your kids or whoever can watch the tablet from a comfortable position. WAMBAM...DONE!
The car buddy is made out of aluminum, ABS hard plastic, soft rubber on the tablet spring-loaded holder. It feels pretty robust and sturdy but I have read the reviews that the spring clamp and plastic components have broken. So there is a rule in the car! The rule is no one touchs the tablet except mommy or daddy. It's kind of goes for our DVD player as well because there's parts that can break. Kids are not so gentle or patient, so I think letting them operate a spring-loaded component is just asking for a broken part.
Now I have also read that the speaker noise kind of ends up in the drivers area instead of the passengers area, which I can relate to because it's right in my ear(Ipad air). I don't need that! So I ended up getting a set of headphones from lilgadgets and with the included splitter my kids listen in silence as mommy and daddy can actually have a conversation without being interrupted. I actually enjoy going for car rides now!
In conclusion this ends the argument of I can't see or he has the pad versus me and not him. And so forth and such.Read more ›
For others reading the review, note that an iPad2 fits well, but not with the case on.
Anyway, looking at the design I have serious doubts it is durable enough to hold a bigger tablet.
My initial review was based on a product that came broken. LilGadgets offered a replacement as a part of their “satisfaction guarantee” program. Here is what I think about this product after using it on a road trip:
- Bar extends enough even for full-size vans (Ford Transit)
- Hooks provide fairly stable platform of a tablet.
- Mount is easy to install and adjust.
- The cradle can hold big tablets (10’’-11’’)
- Switching drivers and re-adjusting the bar length is a pain.
- The bar effectively blocks access to the next row, especially with a tablet mounted.
Overall, it seems to be decent mount. I would just recommend using some Velcro strap to secure the holder to the bar. That can give you piece of mind in case you have an expensive device.
One last thing; the customer service is very good.
In less than 24 hours I received an email from LilGadgets. They made good on their 100% satisfaction guarantee. They refunded our purchase price without us having to return the product. What GREAT customer service. I hope my shopping endeavors leads me back to LilGadgets in the future! 5/5 Stars for Customer Service!
