About Lilly Pulitzer

Lilly Pulitzer is a heritage brand born in Palm Beach, Florida that designs resort apparel and accessories for sunny days. How did this brand come to be?
Resort wear in America dates back to the turn of the century, when luxurious resorts were built along the Florida coast. Visitors needed fashion that was lightweight, traveled with ease and looked effortlessly chic once slipped on…enter, Resort Wear. The seasonal migration south caused such a stir that in 1928 The New York Times declared the ‘fifth fashion season’ called THE PALM BEACH SEASON. Things didn’t truly get colorful (AKA more than just navy, red, and white) until Lilly Pulitzer hit the scene.

In 1959-ish, Lilly (McKim) Pulitzer – a stylish Palm Beach hostess and socialite whose husband Peter Pulitzer owned several Florida citrus groves - opened a juice stand off Worth Avenue in Palm Beach. Lilly Pulitzer’s business was a hit, but squeezing oranges, lemons, limes, and pink grapefruit made a mess of her clothes.
