Limit switches are mechanical position and safety switches used to make or break electrical connections as part of a plant or building automation system. A limit switch may use a variety of actuator types, such as with plunger limit switch, spring rod switch, roller plunger limit switch, twist lever switch, or magnetic limit switch. Contacts for limit switches can be normally open or normally closed, and switch connections can be either quick or slow, according to the requirements of an application, and they can include status LEDs and connector sockets. Common brands of limiting switch include Honeywell limit switch, Omron limit switch, and Allen Bradley limit switch. A safety interlock switch activates a solenoid and is common among industrial limit switches.
A safety switch stops a process when a parameter is exceeded. A furnace limit switch engages when temperature is exceeded. A fan limit switch engages when tilt angle is exceeded. A micro switch limit switch engages when a micro limit switch position is reached. A miniature limit switch operates in the same way. A safety switch is used in emergency shutoffs in industrial workplaces.
