Astronaut Jason "Ace" McCoy has just completed an extended mission on the International Space Station. As part of NASA's long term goal of sending a mission to Mars, Jason has been evaluated to determine how the human body handles being in microgravity for long periods of time. Upon return to Earth, Jason is devastated to learn that he has lost a significant amount of bone density--more than expected. As such, he has been grounded until his bone density levels improve.
Meanwhile, Jason has just learned that he has inherited half of a Texas ranch. His co-inheritor is Molly Tanner, who he first met when they were teenagers. Jason had a rough family situation growing up and Molly's father took him in, becoming a mentor to him in the process. With the recent death of Molly's father and the co-inheritance, Molly and Jason reconnect and have to decide what to do with the ranch now that it's theirs.
As Molly and Jason get back into the groove of friendship, their relationship turns into a physical one, with the mutual understanding that it's temporary. But as Jason begins to accept the possibility that he might never be cleared to go back into space again, he also considers the idea of a future with Molly.
I liked both characters. Molly has been hurt by love in the past, so she's hesitant to commit to a serious relationship with Jason. She's also still grieving over the loss of her father, so she's in a vulnerable place emotionally. On top of all this, she wants to do right by her father and make the best choices for the family ranch. As for Jason, I liked him a lot because even though he's the best at his job, he's not arrogant or a jerk about it. And when it comes to Molly, he's careful with her and supportive as they navigate the new directions both of their lives are going in.
For me, the main drawback was the pacing of the story, which was quite slow. It's a short book, but it took me a while to work through it simply because it didn't always hold my attention. There's a lot of push and pull and internal conflict for both characters, to the point where it felt repetitive. Lastly, the ending felt anticlimactic after so much buildup to the question of whether or not Jason would return to space and what that meant for his future with Molly.
Overall, though, I liked the book--especially all the geeky NASA references and plenty of steamy moments--so I plan on reading the next book in the series.
No Limits is the kick-off to a new “Space Cowboys” series by Katherine Garbera that brings us on a venture into a world that we don’t read much about in romance … and it was fun!
Astronaut Jason “Ace” McCoy hasn’t been home to Cole’s Hill, Texas in 13 years. He left behind his teenage crush long ago to explore his dreams in the stars. Now he’s grounded due to some medical issues and heading to the ranch that he jointly inherited to try to get it sorted out before he is due back in Houston.
Molly Tanner hasn’t forgotten Jason in all these years, and she’s not overly happy her Dad put them both together by leaving them the ranch jointly. It doesn’t take long with them being around each other for that same old passion to roar it’s head and sweep them away. Can she ever be enough to hold his heart or will he forever leave her when space comes calling again?
Ace is an astronaut who is grounded because he didn't pass his physical and is told that he has inherited half an ranch that is struggling to make it with Mollie the owners daughter owning the other half. He goes to the ranch and Mollie is there. Mollie has had crush on him for years and he choose to leave and become an astronaut instead of staying and maybe becoming a ranch he followed his dreams. In the book they spend time together fall in love and when he gets his strength back and is able to go on space mission he has to decide whether to go or stay. He decided that he has to go, Mollie encourages him to go and follow his dreams and then come home to her. It was a very good book. Different from what I normally read and I would recommend you read if you enjoy a well written romance.
